Principal's Report

Simone Wood, Principal

Hello Everyone,

With just under 2 weeks left to go, there are a few things still to do. The years 6s are getting all their photos and stories ready for graduation, staff are completing the reporting process and there are a few fun activities in store for our students.

We have our second session of Parkour tomorrow. Last week students were stepped through how important it is to warm up their bodies before trying something as strenuous as Parkour moves. Cam and Flynn were very supportive and patient with those students who had last minute jitters, but who eventually gave it a go. Well done everyone for putting brave out front!

Our trip to ACMI and Melbourne was one of the best we have ever done (see also the school events page).

The quality of the program run by ACMI on Stop-motion video making was long but incredibly engaging.  The time flew by quickly. With Christmas decorations around the city, there was a really positive vibe and a lot to see as we walked back to the train station along the Yarra. Our students did an excellent job of navigating platforms, escalators and V/line and Metro trains. There was a moment when a train pulled in and disgorged numerous carriage loads of commuters into the middle of our group as we were coming down the escalator. Thinking quickly our group weaved through the throng and found Madame Lee. We did find that our students had a bit of the ‘country wander’ happening. Not used to having to dodge other people, keep left or cross quickly, it took a few repetitions before they eventually got the hang of city streets. A very handy practice for our City camp next year.

The Fungi caravan has been here today. Our students have been learning all about the different types of fungi, what is safe or dangerous, the way fungi grows, and they have asked plenty of questions. Check out the sustainability page of the newsletter.

Tomorrow our sustainability group will be making a small lunch for the Prep class who were the lucky winners of the Nude food competition. Please consult the notice sent home regarding lunch. Congratulations to the Prep class, I hope you enjoy your prize.

Next Tuesday is our state-wide transition day. All our year 6s heading off to government secondary schools will be visiting there. While in the afternoon our 2023 Preps will visit for their last session. During that session the 2023 classes will be getting together for a meet and greet with their teacher and to begin preparations for 2023.

On Wednesday 14th students are invited to come dressed in soccer gear or dressed in colours representing one of the countries participating in the World Cup (NO gold coin required).

On Thursday 15th there will be a school disco in the afternoon to celebrate achieving our SWPBS goal for the year. We just made it with a few days to spare!

Reports will go home to parents on Friday the 16th.

On Friday the 16th, Year 6s will have their graduation High tea before Assembly at 3pm. From assembly they will be whisked off to wait for the rest of our students to form the farewell honour guard before we cheer the 6s out the gate. Parents wishing to get photos of this may find the car park /main gateway the best spot.

Graduation in the evening will involve the year sixes returning in their finery with their family for a trip down memory lane and their final farewell. The evening will commence at 5pm and run for approximately 1 hour.

Our Christmas windows are almost complete. It has taken a little longer than expected. Thank you to parents who came in to help. Please check with your classroom teacher if there is still anything to be done.

Tomorrow Mrs Hood will be videoing her final music performance for the year and preparing it for distribution to families. Could parents please ensure that students remember to bring along their costume requirements (please see the notices section). Mrs Hood has quite a bit to accomplish during the day as this will be her last day with us for 2022. She heads off on leave before the end of the term and we will see her back with us in 2023.

2023

Classes and staff for 2023

As mentioned in a previous newsletter, Newham Primary School will have 4 classrooms operating in 2023. P/1, 2/3, 3/4, & 5/6 . Today I am in the process of finalising our new staff member for 2023. As soon as this is completed, I will send home an uEducateUs message to all parents.

There will be one final newsletter before the end of this term. This will be mostly dates for Term 1, 2023 and any final information we need to pass on.
