LOTE (Mandarin)

Mandarin

Happy Year of the Rat! Welcome to (huān yíng lǎi dào 欢迎来到) 2020 Mandarin Learning. Our Mandarin program kicked off this year with another Chinese Dress Up Day celebration. It was a sea of red at school and many Mickey Mouse characters walking around looking very happy.

In Term one, we welcomed our new Preps to join the Mandarin program. They are learning about the Chinese Flag, Panda and all the essential Mandarin classroom routine words. For example, stand up-起立qǐ lì,please sit down- 请坐qǐng zuò and thank you 谢谢你 xiè xiè nǐ. Grade 1-2 students are learning about Chinese Zodiac: the legendary story behind the selection of the zodiac animals, spelling of the animal words in Pinyin and singing and playing lots of games. Students also revisit the Chinese numbers 1-10 that they learned from last year. ‘Countries In the World’ will be the topic for the Grade 3-4 students. They will apply their Pinyin letter sound relation knowledge in spelling all the new words, learning about introduced words from other language to Mandarin language and the key components that make up Chinese characters. This year’s Mandarin lessons will still be filled with lots of singing, voice recording of new words and sentences, language games as well as Chinese calligraphy practice.

I would like to congratulate these students who have participated in a performance at Point Cook’s Lunar New Year Festival, sining the Mandarin song Happy New Year on the 8th of February: Aarave Pandya, Jayden Chugg, Brody Chugg, Aarnav Singh, Zoe Li, Linda Li, Screenanda Prasanth, Riya Shingari, Sienna Firman, Ehan Azfer, Anna De Wit, Scarlett Ling and Sharique Mohamed Siraduddin. Well done all, you made us so proud!  I also want to thank all the parents who came along either supporting their child as an audience member or joining the stage performance holding our school’s homemade dragon. We all make the perfect team! Thank you for your wonderful support in helping our students to reach their full potential and make the maximum of learning opportunities.
