Library News

The Resource Centre continues to be a busy hub of activity with many students visiting before school, at recess, lunchtime and after school. It has been wonderful to see so many students really embracing the opportunity to read widely, keeping the front desk busy with borrowing and returning books. We love receiving requests to purchase new novels that students are keen to read, and we have already received our first order of requested books from our supplier. Students who request books are notified via email once their request has been processed and is ready for borrowing.
To make space for new books, the library staff have undertaken a clearance of many titles from our shelves and are busy preparing for our super Book Sale, beginning Tuesday March 12th. Both non-fiction and fiction books, including Manga, will be available to purchase for just $1 per book. Proceeds from the sale will be going to the St Vincent de Paul Society. Students are encouraged to put aside their gold coins in readiness and bring their own reusable carry bag.
Students in Years 7 and 9 should be well underway with their wide reading. Currently, MacKillop House is leading the charge, with Mannix hot on their heels. Students record the number of words for each book they read and write a short review to demonstrate their knowledge of the text, explain how they felt about it and provide a recommendation. The most popular genres currently being read are Dystopian, Fantasy and Supernatural. Stories about growing up are also popular amongst our teenage readers.
We look forward to seeing many happy students at our book sale beginning March 12 and we look forward to seeing all our students in Year 7 to 9 in their Wide Reading classes.
