Principal's Report

Dear Parents and Guardians
I write in response to the proceedings involving Cardinal George Pell.
There has been a variety of responses and some of our Community might be confused or want further clarification.
Our Archbishop, The Most Reverend Peter Andrew Comensoli, and The Most Reverend Archbishop Mark Coleridge, have made public statements which I have attached.
Father Kevin Dillon, President of our Canonical Administrators, was interviewed and responded to the Today Show on Channel Nine (yesterday). Following is the video to Fr Kevin’s interview:

The most important aspect of this, is that we feel for all victims, and related families and friends during this time. Especially, when events of the past and present continue to have a detrimental effect on them.
As Fr Kevin stated during a radio interview, as individuals, may our own relationship with God continue to be strong and may the juridical system continue the great work that it is empowered to do.
Let’s allow the process to continue and keep all that have been affected, in our prayers.
Shibuya College
In the coming weeks we will have thirteen (13) Japanese students visiting the College and being hosted by Nazareth families. I thank each of you for taking on this responsibility. These co-sharing opportunities will be, hopefully, repaid later this year when Nazareth College students visit Japan.
If there are any other families who would consider hosting students from Shibuya College, please contact Kath Taura for further information.
Nazareth Tram
Last week, representatives of Nazareth College travelled to Newport Tram Depot to examine a tram that has been gifted to us. We anticipate restoring it through a community project involving our students, parents and other interested community members.
At present, we are doing a feasibility study on the cost of removing lead paint and any other contaminants. Once this information is determined, along with other costings, the College will be able to make an informed decision.
Strategic Plan
Currently, our Leadership team and staff are in conversation regarding the College direction of our Strategic Plan for the next four years. We hope to engage parent and student input as it is essential to have a variety of opinions that will assist us in planning what our community considers to be vital in the College’s Strategic Plan.
If there are any parents who are interested in contributing, could you please email
principal@nazareth.vic.edu.au or phone the Principal’s office on (03) 9790 8120 to express your desire to contribute.
Year 7 Parents
We are now at the end of the first month of school and I feel that all Year 7s have had a well guided and enjoyable transition and induction into Nazareth College. If there are any issues that you are not certain about, please feel free to contact your child’s Pastoral Teacher. They will be able to assist you with your enquiries.
NCCA
Parents are reminded that they are welcome to join the Nazareth College Community Association (NCCA). This group is made up of parent volunteers who work for parents and the Nazareth students. Last Tuesday, we saw many new volunteers front up and it would be wonderful if some additional members joined. So, why not become part of your children’s education and work closely with the NCCA.
Please contact Michelle Wong (President NCCA) by emailing her on Mich_thieu@hotmail.com or please leave your details with the College Receptionist on (03) 9795 8100.
Generally, the theme of this edition of the Principal’s article in the Newsletter centres around forming partnerships and working together to provide the very best for our students. This is a shared responsibility and we welcome any assistance that you can offer. Please feel free to contact the College as there is always something that can be done to help others.
God Bless
Mr Sam Cosentino
Principal
