SURVIVOR MATHS CHALLENGE

More than a dozen teams and over half of the Year 8 forms entered the second last Survivor event, the Maths Challenge, with a chance of being the overall champion for the year.

Teams had an hour to answer as many questions as they could. However, they were only allowed to collect one question at a time. This meant there was a hive of activity as the thirty-five teams sent their runner to the stage to hand in the answer to one question and grab the next. At the tables, the maths brains were activated and answers were explained and debated. Teachers were kept busy entering and marking scores as teams tried to answer as many of the 30 questions as they could in the time limit. The Santorini island group from 8H said, “It has been interesting and challenging in a good way”, while Maya Ben-Harim (Year 8) said,  "We had a great time because we all worked together and enjoyed ourselves”. In Periods 1 and 2, Nauru came first with 40 points - ahead of four teams who all finished on 36 points. In Periods 3 and 4, Cyprus fell one point short of the winners, Tuvalu.

All participants deserve the greatest credit, however, since all groups were working hard on solving the problems right to the very last minute. Thank you to all who took part and also to the teachers who helped ensure the smooth running of the day.
