Getting Ready for School - Transition to School

The transition to school can be especially challenging for children with an Autism Spectrum Disorder diagnosis. Changes to routines, environments, activities, people and uniforms can cause unease or anxiety for individuals.

 

This workshop will explore the various ways you can support your child to transition as smoothly as possible into school including with orientation visits, social stories and practising at home. You will also learn about how to best advocate for your child by having a communication system in place, ensuring the best tools and strategies are used to help your child successfully transition to school.

 

This workshop has been designed for parents, carers and professionals who are currently supporting a child with an Autism diagnosis who will be transitioning to school in 2020.

The transition to school can be especially challenging for children with an Autism Spectrum Disorder diagnosis. Changes to routines, environments, activities, people and uniforms can cause unease or anxiety for individuals.

 

This workshop will explain the funding programs available to students with disabilities attending Department of Education Schools, Catholic Schools and Independent Schools. You will learn about P.S.G, E.N.Q, related assessments and other unfamiliar terminology to assist you to navigate the school system and access the best possible support for your child.

 

This workshop has been designed for parents, carers and professionals who are currently supporting a child with an Autism diagnosis who will be transitioning to school in 2019.

Anniversary of Moon Landing

The Boroondara Library Service is hosting an event in commemoration of the  50th Anniversary of the Moon Landing and we inviting you to participate in this wonderful event:

 

Storytime: Space the final frontier - Saturday 20 July, 11am to 11.45am, Balwyn Library, All Ages

 

On July 20 1969 Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin took the first steps on the Moon!

Come along to a family storytime to commemorate this momentous event.

Footage of the Apollo 11 moonwalk and space craft will be held in the meeting room throughout the day.

 

I have also attached memory cards/colouring pictures that you may wish to use within your school community.

Gallery of Young Art

You are invited to the grand opening of GoYA (Gallery of Young Art).

We are beyond excited to be opening GoYA which stands for Gallery of Young Art. GoYA aims to teach, support and showcase the work of young artists. In the art Industry there is little opportunity for young artists to express and showcase their work in a professional setting. We hope that this gallery will be able to provide countless opportunities for young artists and inspire creativity of future artists.

 

We invite you to join us for the Grand Opening of GoYA and the first exhibition A Mile in My Shoes. There will be catering by the Asylum Seekers Resource Centre as well as live music from Natural State and Leon Croeber.

Buddy Run

Registrations are now open for the 2019 Buddy Run.

This year, with your help, Buddy Run is going to be bigger and better than ever!

 

The Event Village is back, full of entertainment and activities for all.

Another important reason to take part

Each year one in four children are bullied at school. It can have a huge effect on their self-esteem, behaviour and their ability to succeed at school. The Buddy Run gives us all the chance to stand up and say no to bullying. Together, we can champion change.
