Education Week ‘Every student, every voice’

Next week is Education Week and we are celebrating student empowerment and how the NSW public education system gives students the skills they need in order to have and express a voice during their own educational journey and as engaged global citizens. We will be holding our Education Week Assembly on Tuesday, 13th August to showcase some of the wonderful programs at Brooke Avenue PS. Please come and join in the celebration with us.

P&C

Our Parents and Citizen’s Association (P & C) met again on Monday and continue to provide wonderful support to our school. If you would like to become involved please call the office and we will provide you with more information.

2020 Kindergarten

Places are filling fast and we are currently finalising the in area enrolments for Kindergarten 2020. If you have not enrolled your child for Kindergarten 2020 please contact the office ASAP. Once in area applications have been finalised we will be examining out of area applications. As there is a new enrolment policy that has been implemented in all Department of Education Schools, we need to work through a thorough process when examining these applications.

Nationally Consistent Collection of Data (NCCD)

Our school is participating in the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (Data Collection). This Data Collection is taking place in government, Catholic and Independent schools across Australia, and will provide valuable information about supports required for a broad group of students. This will enable Australian and State governments to better target support and resources in schools. This, in turn, will help schools give students with disability the support they need.

The Data Collection is not limited to students with diagnosed disabilities. It uses a very broad definition of disability, taken from the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 and the Disability Standards for Education 2005, which describe a broad range of health and learning conditions for which schools are required to provide ‘reasonable adjustments’ to support students to participate on the same basis as other students.

The Data Collection will take place during Term 3. No personal or identifying information about any student will be included, however, if you decide you do not wish information about your child to be included in the Data Collection, you can opt-out by signing and returning the opt-out consent form. Safety Around the School

Can I ask that all of our parents please think carefully about where we park when dropping children off at school. Some parents are parking far too close to the crossing which limits the vision for children crossing and is illegal. Remember our children are precious and having to park a little further from the school for the safety of our children is not an inconvenience.

Reading Aloud to Your Child

When our children become independent readers, we often forget how important it is to continue to read to them. Reading in general, whether independently or with an adult, enhances vocabulary, improves writing skills and develops creativity. Reading aloud to your child has great benefits for your child’s reading development and it is a great way to spend quality time with them. Most importantly, they love it! There’s nothing better than curling up on the couch with a parent, older sibling or grandparent and listening them read a fantastic story to you.

Please continue to read with your children....no matter how old they are.....
