Special Curriculum Day

On Thursday the 29th August school will finish at 1pm as staff are heading to a learning retreat with the Heatherton Campus.

There will be no school on Friday the 30th August due to the curriculum day. TheirCare services will be available, please book with them directly (places are limited).

Performing Arts Team

This term, I have had the incredibly difficult task of selecting our 2019 Performance Team. I was looking for students who were able to present a prepared script or musical item as well those who could learn movements quickly and then perform them. The students who successfully made the team showed several skills including confidence, tenacity and resilience. They also showed good communication skills and the ability to listen and focus. Thank you so much to all of the students who auditioned. Auditioning is a very valuable experience in itself and I hope that those who didn’t make the team, will try again next time there is a similar opportunity.

Congratulations to the following students who have been selected for this year’s team:

Amber Kay-Hards, Anvi Bindal, Molly Sharma, Vansh Sinha, Atul Suresh, Ethan Liem, Senithi Banda, Vihaan Sinha, Andriya Arun Jonah, Isabella Velasquez, Jisha Nandi, Rishika Raghunadh, Beau Mackintosh, Tayla Wilkes, Yonit Gupta, Eva Dalgleish, Joseph Aygur, Shivi Gupta, Verushka Digwa

Please note that ALL students will be participating in the Performing Arts program in Terms 3 and 4 and ALL students will participate in our end of year Presentation Evening Production. Our Performance Team will hold greater roles in the Production and will have other opportunities to perform and show leadership. Well done to everyone for giving the Performing Arts Program such a great beginning at WCC. The students can all be very proud of themselves.

The Robot Man - Robotics Incursion 16 August

Our Grade 1-4 students were lucky enough to enjoy a Robotics Incursion last Friday with a visit from "The Robot Man".  The students had engaging and enjoyable sessions with each grade participating in a different type of robotics. We are grateful also to our Robot Man, Steve who was kind enough to allow our Prep students to engage in some robot play also during lunchtime.

With our Club House Activity plans for 2020 including robotics - it seems like a wise (& popular!) choice.

The Robot Man is returning later this term for further fun!

Book Week 19-23 August

WCC enjoyed our Book Character Dress Up day on Monday, we have some very creative students and parents. Our Assembly on Monday was opened by Miss Cruz sharing some of her poetry with us (with 22,000 followers on Instagram, she is practically famous!) Miss Cruz also visited each of the classrooms on Tuesday to share about why she enjoys poetry so much.

Each lunchtime this week has seen students also have the opportunity to enjoy a book reading by various staff and students.

School Sports Victoria - Regional Athletics

Well done to Vansh, Ethan, Amber, Elijah, Anson, Anvi, Liam, Samreen, and Atul for representing Wyndham Christian College in a range of events at the district SSV Athletics.

From the 11 competing local schools, our school placed 11th. That said, each of our students whole heartedly participated and tried their best. They were very excited when they were able to cheer on their friends in their events. Each student showed encouragement and good sportsmanship towards their own teammates and even those from other schools too.

A big congratulations goes to Manor Lakes College for placing first in the event. Even though we placed 11th, our school was welcomed as the ‘new school’ and recognised for our positivity and large efforts for such a small team.

So that’s all of the SSV district events for 2019!!!

If your child will be in Grades 3-5 next year, they could have an opportunity to represent Wyndham CC in either Swimming (Term 1), Cross Country (Term 2), or Athletics (Term 3).

Get training!

Mr Heckathorn

HPE Day - 12th September

Health & Physical Education (HPE) Day is a nationwide initiative that highlights the importance of HPE in the Australian Curriculum, and its influence on the learning and development of children.

At WCC, we are participating in this nationwide movement. On the day we will have various activities running throughout the day such as Up-and-Go with “special persons”, 100 laps challenge and a students vs teachers soccer match. We will be serving fruit platters during lunch to all the students watching the game. We would also like to encourage 'nude food' lunches, where the parents don’t pack lunches with wrappers or have anything that needs to be disposed of after eating.

In preparations for this day, we are asking for parent volunteers to organise fruit beforehand as well as helpers to prepare and serve the fruit on the day. Please email office@wyndhamcc.vic.edu.au to register your interest. Thank you.

Special Persons Day - 12th September

Thursday 12th September from 8:45-11am

Special person’s day is a day where a grandparent, a special person or even a parent can come to see our College and spend some time in the classroom with the child.

We request that each family has a maximum of 2 special people.

The children and their special person will complete a sporting activity in the church and craft in their classroom, this will be followed by morning tea in the foyer. (Special people do not need to be fit to do the sporting activities, they can observe or participate as much as they feel comfortable.)

Invitations will be sent home with your children to invite their Special Person in the coming week. Please RSVP to office@wyndhammcc.vic.edu.au by no later than Monday the 8th September for catering purposes.

TheirCare Customer Survey

Thank you to all the families that responded to our recent customer survey.  Over 500 of you took the time to let us know your thoughts and the feedback provides critical insight into what we do right and areas we can improve.

We asked your opinion on educator engagement, resources used in the service, service presentation, level of fun and our holiday programs.  Overall, we rated at or above 90% positive satisfaction for each area which is really encouraging.  Less than 1% of responses were ‘not happy’ about our efforts and 9% of families thought we could do better and provided some really useful suggestions and reminders of what you want.

Some of the things you reminded us you want to see at service included:

  • A formal greeting makes you feel welcome
  • You like to see a range of activities that include outdoor play and structured activities
  • To include activities aimed at the older children in the service who have different needs to younger children
  • Spaces must be clean but also warm and welcoming (by including examples of artwork created by your children)
  • Educators should be actively engaged in play with your children

We received feedback on our holiday program as well, with suggestions and requests for more excursions and making excursions longer in duration.  Some families also wanted more structured activities in addition to the main excursion or incursion planned.  We have already taken this feedback on board and added a ‘Super Excursion’ to our Spring holiday program at most services.  We have also provided visibility in our holiday program material of other planned activities that will keep children engaged for the whole day and so you know what to expect.

We always welcome input, whether that is collected in surveys, passed on to our team members at service or calling our customer support team.  Our focus is on providing the best service to your children and families so if there is something we can do to make your experience better please let us know.

Bookings are now open for the September School Holiday Program, check out the details online http://theircare.com.au/
