From Jennifer Trodden - Head of Campus

Dear Parents / Guardians,

I promise I will finish this article with a number of positive items, however, I am starting with a grumble.  The safety of our children in the car park and before school is of great concern to me. Despite several reminders, I’ve observed that some students are still being dropped off for school before 8:25am and some families using the kiss and drop bay continue to unload their children into the traffic.

I’d like to encourage all families who require an early drop off to please utilise the before school care services. TheirCare services opens at 6:30am and the leader stays with the children until the bell. The cost is $23.00, with an average out of pocket expense of $6.23 following the government rebate, this cost is minimal for the safety of our students at school.

The school grounds and crossings are actively supervised from 8:25am. Please do not drop your children off before this time, unless you are able to supervise them, or have arranged for another parent to stay and watch. Please don’t assume that another parent will watch your child as they may leave also.

When using the Kiss & Drop bay it is important that you stop, kiss and drop. Please do not leave your car. It is safest to unload your children towards the playground, rather than into the traffic that is passing by. We request that all parents partner with the College to ensure the safety of our beautiful children.

Now on to the positive things!

I am very pleased to announce that following last week’s Board meeting a number of exciting items have been approved. Between now and next year we will begin to see the total transformation of our property and enhancement of our programs:

  • Following the amazing response from our students with the recent Robotics trial incursion, we will be investing a further $6,000 into Robotics, as well as 50 Apple iPads and 45 Microsoft Surface Pros, on top of the existing 75 Apple iPads.
  • In the yard, we will be adding AFL football goals, a large playground with two slides, shade sails, a sandpit and a Junior Basketball ring.
  • Improving the physical appearance of the school from the road; we will be adding a tall black security fence that will run from Ballan Rd up to the building, and we plan to seed and irrigate the front section of the church.
  • Inside the current teacher staffroom we have begun collecting books for our Discovery Centre, and next year we will establish a sensory support room for students with special needs as well as a small classroom for group work.
  • While the new school building will have a sealed car park, we will also make improvements to the existing church car park.
  • Experiencing doubled enrolments for next year with limited places left in specific year levels, we have appointed a number of new teachers, administrators and support staff to care for our students and families.
  • During the September school holidays, we will add security lights to the church, and will finish building the portico at the front door.
  • The church building will also be painted during the break.

We hope to see continuing works on the new buildings with Wyndham Council support and look forward to a very exciting start to 2020.

I will commence 2021 enrolment interviews next week, so please encourage friends and families to enroll now so that they don’t miss out.

If you have helpful feedback or suggestions, please arrange a time to come and speak with me as I value your contribution and trust that we can build a strong, safe and healthy school together.

Kind regards

Jennifer Trodden
