Junior School News

Prep P, 1T and 1/2D went on a brilliant excursion to Ceres Environment Park last week.  The students enjoyed hands on experiences, creating paper, searching for minibeasts, holding worms and sorting out rubbish.  The grade ones were also excited to learn that the environment park used to be landfill!  This learning enhanced our ability to connect inquiry concepts explored at school to the real world and helped students understand why we need to look after the planet and be aware of our impact on the Earth.  Thank you to Delphine and all the parent helpers who supported us on the day. Thanks also to all of you at home who are making a huge effort to not send any rubbish to school.  1T have had fun developing a new bin system in our classroom so we can sort out waste and rethink where our trash goes and take action against sending unnecessary garbage to landfill.

English

1T are now looking at procedural texts in writing, thinking about their skills and things they can teach others.

We continue to have a lot of fun during our CAFÉ reading sessions, recognising how different strategies support us to understand and read texts!  Don’t forget 1T have library on a Friday, please send along their library bags each week so they can bring home a range of books to read during the week!

Maths

We have been learning about addition and subtraction for the past few weeks and will be further developing our number skills in the last weeks of term.  Students have loved playing games to deepen their understanding.  Try playing make ten at home with a pack of cards!

As winter is now here, please ensure names are on beanies, scarves and jackets so they can be returned to you if lost!

Thanks again to all our wonderful parent helpers, it’s always great having you assist in the classroom!
