Book Week
This week at Burke Ward we will be celebrating Book Week. Over the last few weeks, students have been looking at and listening to numerous books that were nominated for the Children’s Book Council of Australia Book Week awards.
As part of the Book Week celebrations there will be a parade on Thursday commencing at 12.50. All students from Kinder to Year 6 are asked to come to school dressed as one of their favourite book characters. We encourage your child to carry the book that their character is from. If you don’t have the book then call into the library on Thursday morning to see if a copy of the book is available from there. If you don’t have a favourite book character, perhaps you can come dressed as something associated with this year’s theme, which is ‘Find Your Treasure’.
This year wea re inviting younger siblings to join in the parade. If they have dressed up they will be invited to walk around with an older sibling and their class. The parent or caregiver will need to take the younger stbling to the grassed area to find the older sibling and his/her class.
The students will parade around the area outside the admin area and the middle playground. Parents, care givers and relatives are encouraged to come along and watch the parade. At the conclusion of the parade the classes will participate in a shared reading activity. Parents, caregivers and relatives are invited to join their children. The teachers will take their class back to their room or out onto the grass.
