Softball Report

 Katrina Powell Softball

Despite what the score lines might suggest, it was another fantastic year for the Mater Dei softball team competing in the Katrina Powell Shield. After the high of finishing third in 2013 a large contingent of first-time players took to the diamond eager to play some softball and have some fun.

The competition started with a heavy loss to reigning premier Kooringal High 28-2, before the team bounced back with a strong performance against 2013 finalist Wagga High. Some solid pitching was supported by excellent out fielding and catching to see the girls down 9-1. Unfortunately that good form left us in the game against TRAC where we missed our best chance for a win, losing 15-7. Our final game saw us take on eventual winners Mount Austin High School. In a game played in fantastic spirit the girls played strongly, fielding well and getting a number of batters on base. Unfortunately Mount Austin were to strong and took the win 13-1.

The Williams sisters, Alex and Abbey, along with Courteney Cullum formed the experienced core of the team. Abbey Dixon showed a natural aptitude for the game with some excellent pitching and consistent hitting against some very strong lineups. All players made contributions across the competition and are all better for the experience.

Congratulations to the entire team on a great series. Thanks to the parents, supporters and Mr Gilham, Miss Posselt and Mrs Pethybridge for their ongoing support.
