"Mater Dei Matters"

Principal's Message

Dear Parents/Carers  

This year Mater Dei Catholic College joined Catholic schools across NSW and the ACT to celebrate Catholic Schools Week (CSW) this past week.

 

The theme for CSW 2014 is ‘more than a great education’ which encourages schools to showcase to their local community the opportunities available to students, raise awareness, and celebrate the distinctiveness of Catholic schools.

Catholic Schools Week is about strengthening relationships between all those who have a stake in our schools – students, staff, families, priests, parishioners, and members of the wider community, by showcasing what happens in our classrooms every day.

To celebrate Catholic Schools Week Year 7 Parents, Students and Teachers held interviews on Wednesday 12 March. This was our biggest turn out year with 86% of time slots taken and 128 out of 149 families present for the evening. 

Furthermore, Year 7 students participated in a Reflection Day on Thursday 13 March with the theme being ‘Who Am I?’which challenged and inspired students to:  

  1. Believe in their own potential and self-worth.
  2. Accept others for who they are.
  3. Interact with other students in a positive manner.
  4. Become a reflective practitioner.

Year 10 students held their Reflection Day today and their theme was ‘Step Up’ which challenged and inspired students to:  

  1. Realise how they can make a difference every day.
  2. Rise above negative social pressures and stereotypes.
  3. Be courageous and daring in being a positive influence, and helping others to do the same.
  4. Use our Christian values as a guide post to leading a life of positive action.

Our school has a supportive community of teachers, parents, carers, College Council, clergy, parishioners and support staff who work together to focus on giving students the best education possible, encouraging success, promoting high standards,, supporting creativity and instilling compassion.
