Numeracy

Students will continue to build on their knowledge of Number and Place Value with Year One students working with numbers up to 120 and Year Two students up to 999.

Term 2 will see us focusing on Addition and Subtraction. We will be looking at the most efficient strategies we can use. Some strategies include using our tens facts, using doubles, counting on, counting up, counting back and for the Year 2s, the split and jump strategies.

What we expect the students to learn in Mathematics:

  • Represent and solve simple addition and subtraction problems using a range of strategies.
  • Recognise and classify familiar 2D and 3D shapes using their features (corners, sides, edges, faces)
  • Begin to explore time to the half-hour and describing the key features of an analogue clock (Grade 1). Begin to explore time to the quarter hour (Grade 2).
  • Measure and compare the length of objects using informal units.
