Overseas Study Questions 

Now is the time Year 11s need to make a decision about whether you’ll be applying to unis overseas. We hope this blog helps you realise now is the time to start!

 

Need casual work once school is finished? 

CBH group each year employ around 1000 casual workers.. Each year we recruit around 1,000 casual workers across the state to help bring in the WA crop. Applications are open now for work starting in October. The season runs for several weeks, and the work is tough but rewarding! Outward Bound Navigator Youth Development Program 

If you’re just starting to think about your career or study path, don’t make a decision until you learn more about the strengths and abilities you may not even know you have. Navigator is a 12-day personal development program for youth aged 15-17. The Navigator program is full of adventure, wilderness, new friends and fun, whilst discovering and developing your potential. The program is run in three locations across the ACT, VIC and WA during the September and January school holidays.

MedEntry Free UCAT Bootcamp

MedEntry has provided a free recording of their UCAT Bootcamp to students interested in

studying medicine. The sessions are run by Dr Ray Boyapati, a Gastroenterologist,

Hepatologist and Specialist Physician at Monash Health. Ray has helped thousands of

Reserves

Reserves are men and women who want to do something challenging and rewarding in their spare time while learning new skills and giving something back to the broader community.

 

It is part-time work, you build your networks and earn tax-free money. 

Defence Gap Year  

You can apply for a Defence Force Gap Year in the AirforceNavy and Army.

To be eligible to apply, you'll need to be an Australian citizen aged between 18 and 24 on COMPLETION of military training. You'll also need to have completed Year 12 (subject passes required vary by job) and have passed in Year 10 English and maths.

Leeuwin Ocean Adventures

The 5+ day voyages on the Sail Training Ship Leeuwin ll are a  SCSA Endorsed Program. Students may record up to 3 WACE Units and have their achievements recorded on the WASSA. 

 

Curtin University Learning Futures Network membership allows the voyage to be recognised as evidence for Scholarships and Alternative Pathway Portfolio Entry.

 

Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CaLD) students may apply for the Future Connect Voyage. There is still a few sponsored places available for CaLD and non CaLD students. Applications would need to be in asap.

 

Students participating with the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Awards may also achieve components with Leeuwin Ocean Adventure (They may double dip on the WASSA).

 

Sponsorships are available to apply for all voyages.

Curtin College Diploma 

Curtin College is a pathway to uni provider based on campus at Curtin Bentley.  They offer a range of Diploma courses to assist students with meeting entry requirements for their chosen course of study at Curtin. Upon completion of our Diploma course students will gain guaranteed entry into 2nd year of their chosen bachelor degree.

 

 Our courses are for both domestic and international students and in particularly for students who have not done ATAR and do not meet entry into the University directly.

UWA Hackett Scholarship

The UWA Hackett Scholarship is valued at up to $20,000 and aims to assist and encourage Year 12 WACE school leavers with great potential to undertake a bachelor’s degree at The University of Western Australia. 

Students will automatically be awarded the scholarship if they:

  • achieve an ATAR in the top 10 per cent of their school cohort (ATAR greater than 60)
  • list a UWA course as their 1st preference through TISC in the December round offers, and
  • completed Year 12 at a regional, remote or targeted metropolitan school, are Indigenous or participated in Fairway UWA

This scholarship also provides an alternative pathway for students to attend UWA who wouldn’t have otherwise been eligible. 

 

UWA Principal’s Citizenship Award

The UWA Principal’s Citizenship Award recognises an outstanding Year 12 WACE student who is nominated by their principal as most likely to succeed at university due to his or her resilience, exemplary scholarly attributes and/or contributions to the school and broader community.

 

The UWA Principal’s Citizenship Award, valued at $1,500, is replacing the UWA Excellence Award from 2019. Eligibility requirements of this new and exciting award have been expanded to encompass a diverse range of student attributes worthy of recognition.

Fremantle Undergraduate Scholarships

A full range of scholarships is now open for students looking to start university in 2021.Selection criteria vary for each scholarship and can include community involvement and leadership roles, academic performance and financial need.

Curtin Scholarships

Curtin Rural WA Medical School Scholarship

Students who are required to relocate from a regional or remote area of Western Australia to undertake the Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery at Curtin University in 2021 and are experiencing financial hardship.

Curtin Excellence Scholarships

The Curtin Excellence Scholarships for 2021 are open. Formal applications are not required - students apply simply by selecting an eligible Curtin course through TISC as their first preference.

 

Curtin Principal’s Recommendation Award

The Curtin Principal’s Recommendation Award is open for applications from 14 August. It aims to encourage and support students who have chosen to study at Curtin University.  Each West Australian high school principal can nominate two students for this award.

The Good Universities Guide to Nursing

The Good Universities Guide has written about the best universities to study nursing.

 

Two West Australian universities were among the top ranking. Notre Dame took top place for Skills Development with a 93% satisfaction rate. 

 

Curtin ranked second on graduate salary with students earning a salary of $64,700, not far behind the University of Southern Queensland which took the top spot with a median salary of $65,200 a year.

Round 1 applications and change of preferences close for all courses on Friday 4 December 2020

You can change your preferences by logging in via tasonline.tafe.wa.edu.auUp to this date, you can:

  1. Add new preferences, for any course
  2. Change the order of the preferences
  3. Cancel preferences
  4. Change the campus of an existing preference

Defence TAFE Employment Scheme 

COMPUTING, CYBERSECURITY, ENGINEERING, ELECTRICAL & ELECTROTECHNOLOGY

 

 The DTES is a civilian traineeship scheme designed to support students completing their final year/s of TAFE by providing paid employment combined with ongoing study with guaranteed employment on successful completion of the scheme.

 

The Defence TAFE Employment Scheme supports VET training with paid work experience. It offers guaranteed employment on successful completion of the scheme.

Harvest Jobs

Farmers are so desperate for workers to pick their fruit and veg that the State government has launched the Wander Out Yonder campaign to attract workers to undertake harvesting crops and other agriculture work.
