Listen! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door I will come in.

Rev 3:20

Since we began lock down my family have set up regular zoom sessions with our extended family and friends. Sometimes it has been for a general chat, on other occasions there have been quizzes, cooking sessions, acknowledgements of birthdays or anniversaries and much more! When our children talk with their grandparents you can see how happy they are to see their grandchildren. It is written all over their faces! There’s always an acceptance for who you are. It is such a joyful experience. I always come away feeling very uplifted. I wonder if you have a similar experience.

For I have seen your face which is like seeing the face of God and you have accepted me.” Gen 33:10

Even during this challenging time, when we are physically, disconnected from loved ones we are still able to see the face of God in those around us. At the moment, our Year Six students are learning about the fruits of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22) and what that might look like in their lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, and self-control. I think we are always striving to live out these fruits in our lives. This is what it is to see the face of God in one another!

Mother Teresa provides a beautiful role model for us as Christians. She recognised the face of God in everyone and reached out to all those in need. It is what our faith calls us to do in our daily lives; to recognise that we are all made in the image and likeness of God. Our Scripture quote this year also challenges us to be the face of God to all those at the door!

I wonder how you might be seeing the face of God in your home? Is it a big brother or sister doing something to help their younger sibling? Is it the patience you showed when explaining a maths task? Is it the kindness someone showed to your family pet? Is it the joy someone showed as they played in the backyard?

During these difficult times, may we always seek the face of God, and may we always be blessed with recognizing God’s face in the faces of our friends and loved ones. Let’s look out for this over the coming week. Let us pray for each other and our world as we go forward.
