Assistant Principal News - Exam information for Years 9, 10 and 11

Semester 1 Exams for Years 9, 10 and 11

As we are coming to the mid-point of semester 2, the College Curriculum Leadership Team have been engaging in discussions around exams for students in Years 9, 10 and 11. Due to the interruptions in Semester 1 and the very new experience of remote learning, exams did not take place mid-year. While remote learning has continued into semester 2, we do believe that students would benefit from undertaking exams in Term 4 if they are back on site for learning.

Year 11 students:

Exams will be undertaken in all subject areas.

It is crucial that our Year 11 students gain a true exam experience as they head into Year 12 in 2021.

Year 10 students:

Exams will take place for English and Maths.

Year 9 students:

Exams will take place for English and Maths.

We do wish to remind students and parents that a significant rationale underpinning the running of exams is to provide students with the ‘experience’. This includes exposure to extended assessments, familiarity with exam protocols and processes, building capacity of students to complete assessments under strict timed conditions as well as the time management that is such a significant factor in exam success.

There is an understanding that all students’ learning has been impacted this year and as such careful consideration will be given to the content incorporated into exams. We are also confident that these exams will provide teachers with valuable information that can be used to support students in their learning in 2021.

Exam timelines will be finalised and communicated to students and parents early in Term 4.
