a word from our leaders

Close of Term 3

As we round out term three, I'm aware that the times we have been navigating have also generated a mix of emotions.  We can and should acknowledge just how blessed we are to live in both this country, and state.  Yet as global citizens, our hearts break and anxiety levels remain high as we are continually updated and aware of the vast majority who are less fortunate than us at this time.  It's a strange mix and certainly the source of tiredness, even exhaustion for some as we conclude the term.

Throughout the year our response has been to stay informed and manage the Good Shepherd community in line with the professional advice available to us and with a heart for generosity and connectivity.  I sincerely appreciate the kindness and continued support that has not waivered throughout the year to date - it's in our DNA!

Term 4 will again be different and will have its challenges.  Rest assured, we will navigate the term doing what we know is right and best.

For now, I pray that the term break gives opportunity for some rest and reconnection.

Blessings,

The blessing of the Lord makes one rich, and he adds no sorrow to it.  Proverbs 10:22

2020 is definitely a year of necessary 'firsts'. The Creative Arts Showcase provides our children each year, opportunity to share their gifts, grit and determination with others through an onstage performance before an always energetic audience.  It’s a wonderful thing to witness children sharing their God-given gifts, as part of a team, for the enjoyment of others and … to the glory of God.

Despite the COVID 'curve ball' that has impacted yet another event, I am in absolute awe of how Claudia Deanshaw, our Creative Arts specialist, has let nothing stand in the way of a quality experience for our children, and ultimately, for you too. If your child has been involved in the preparation and presentation, you will have experienced first-hand their excitement.  Thank you Claudia, your energy and passion has inspired and energised the students to be their best.

I acknowledge also the many gifts that our extended community offers the students of Good Shepherd.  There are many who have assisted with costumes, music, props, technical aspects, backstage, coaching, theatre set-up and the many other tasks that ensure a successful performance.  On behalf of the staff and students, I sincerely thank you.

We can all be proud of the community we call Good Shepherd Lutheran School, a community deeply committed to student learning and growth through a broad range of creative experiences and opportunities.

Sports Day

Our rescheduled Sports Day takes place early next term on Friday 30th October.  As has been communicated, due to ongoing COVID-19 restrictions, we sadly are unable to host parents and visitors on the day.

However, we can and will, present a day of spirited fun and competition for our students to enjoy. Please note the following elements as you plan for the day.

Clothing

We ask that all children come to school in their Sport Uniform with the exception of the polo shirt.  We encourage children to wear a t-shirt in the colour of the team they represent.

(School parent, Kris from 'T Shirts are Us' can assist you if you are looking to stay clear of the shops).

We also encourage children to accessorise using ‘creative colour’ to further identify the team to which they belong. To make this a little easier in 2020, we have registered with 'Ponytails and Fairytales' who stock a selection of fun Sports Day accessories in team colours.

We recommend items like socks, laces and sweat bands.  We favour less, items like sunglasses or pom poms that are easily misplaced or that end up in land fill.

20% of the value of orders placed for Good Shepherd comes back to the school.  Orders can be placed online with orders strictly closing on Sunday 18th October.  All Sports Day orders will be sent to the school for distribution through your child’s class in the week of Sports Day. Please use code GSLS DELIVER TO SCHOOL at checkout for free delivery to the school. You can shop online by clicking on the button below.

For any enquiries, please see Dani Levy in the uniform shop, or contact her via email.

Early Dismissal

At the conclusion of the events (approximately 12.30pm), a presentation will be made to the winning team.  Our usual end of day procedures will follow.  There will be no formal lessons in the afternoon.

OSHC

After school care is available from 12.45pm for parents who are unable to collect their child from school.

Digital devices - stage 3 & 4 families

Holidays are a good time to tidy up your child's digital device, ready for Term 4. Go through photos and videos and delete what is not needed. Perhaps teach your child to set up folders for videos and photos.

Ask your child to share any learning and take an interest in their growth.
