Year 3/4 News

A Big Welcome Back to Our Year 3/4 students tomorrow!

As you can imagine, we as teachers cannot wait to see the 3/4's walk into school on Wednesday! It has been an incredible journey so far this year, and after spending the whole of Term 3 online - we can assure you that not only will the students continue to learn academically, but that we will put a huge emphasis on the students reconnecting with one another and progressively getting back into the daily routine of school. We have got some fantastic activities planned for when the 3/4's get back into school and for the rest of Term 4 - it will definitely be a Term to remember, the 'Best Term Ever!' from the year that once was.

Maths

During the first 2 weeks of Term 4, we have been revising number and algebra, including the four operations (addition / subtraction / multiplication / division) that we learnt at the beginning of the year.

We have been looking at vertical addition and subtraction, borrowing, renaming, regrouping, number lines and number stories!

Last week, the students learned a really cool trick called "Multiplication Magic".  Check out this video below and see if you can do the magic too!

Here are some of our children and their videos using this strategy:

Writing

At the end of last term, and for the first 2 weeks of this term, we have been focusing on letter writing. We asked the students to write to their home room teachers about what they did over the holidays.

Here are some examples:

Reading

Over the next fortnight, students will focus on developing their questioning strategies when comprehending text.  Students will identify the difference between a closed question and an open-ended question. Asking and answering questions helps to engage the reader with the text. It provides a purpose for reading and gives the reader a reason to clarify meaning. By posing questions before, during, and after reading a text, the reader self monitors and keeps track of whether what they are reading makes sense.

Religious Education & Wellbeing

Over the next few weeks, our level focus will be centered around our relationship with self, others & God.  Students will explore how we keep building upon our connection with God and others.  We will immerse the students in activities that will help them reconnect with each other in a respectful and friendly manner. We will identify the key elements that have held us together during these challenging and changing times.
