Principal's Report

What a SPECTACULAR SHOW!

What a fabulous performance from all students at our production of Maria's Mask

The lights dimmed, there was a hush in the audience and we were welcomed with some beautiful dancing by a highly talented ballerina in 1829... beauty and grace!  We then traveled through time to arrive in 1929 and the midst of the Great Depression, a theatre in disrepair and  theatre owner in desperate need of some financial resources.  Then.... sighs of delight as our Foundation students hit the stage telling us 'I need a dollar' and busting out some great moves .

We were then taken on the adventure of Maria Montez (and her ghost), an Italian prince, an 'obnoxious' star, a gangsta boss, a theatre owner (and even a circus troupe) as they tried to put together a show in a haunted theatre with no money.  After many laughs, spectacular dancing and with the help of the special police force, the mask was found, Maria's ghost found peace.  The show was a smashing success.  If you weren't able to be there you'll have to wait until the DVD comes out next term.

To order your DVD please collect an envelope from the office, add your details and insert $30, and return to the office.

DVDs will be available next term.

Thank you so much to our staff and parents who worked so hard to make the night possible, specifically:

  • Miss Karen Donnelly for running sound and lighting - the show looked and sounded fantastic
  • Mrs Wendy Turner for leading the creation of the sets  - an incredible job.
  • Mrs Beck Hambly for organising the choir and the music  - sounded great.
  • Ms Hubbard for helping as Production Assistant and putting designing the poster and the programs.
  • Parents Mrs Amy Davis and Mr Richard Henry for going above and beyond once again in serving our school community.
  • Mrs Bec Bertrand- choreographer extraordinaire.

AND OF COURSE MISS ELLEN MORTON- without whom none of this would have been possible.  Miss Morton led our team of staff who  managed practices, organised costumes and arranged sets - and did it all with grace and positivity.    Thank you Ellen for an amazing show.

AND WHAT ABOUT OUR AMAZING CAST!!!  It takes such great RESILIENCE and RESPECT, thought and preparation to hit your mark, deliver a line, bust out a dance move and make it all look effortless and our cast pulled it off so very well.  Such a great example of EXCELLENCE. Well done everyone.

Taking pride in our school

Last week we held TWO working bees.  Yes, TWO!!

The first was held on Friday morning between 9am and 11am.  Thank you so much to parents Howa Seneh, Kristy Way, Amy Davis, Thai Hlei Par, Tammy Bryson. This awesome crew, along with School Council Community Rep George McDonald and student Edward B, worked diligently cleaning out our vegie garden and landscaping an area near the oval.  We are so grateful for your efforts in helping keep our school grounds looking beautiful.

The second was held the next day, on Saturday morning from 8.30am -1pm.  We were joined on this occasion by Adam and Amy Davis,  Ben and Sally Hanley, Grant Stevens, Nick Fontana, Joseph Lai, a host of students and Miss Anna Johnstone.  The wonderful George McDonald returned for a second go at helping out, and we had a host of young people sweeping and raking around the school.  We spruced up sandpits, cleaned drains, weeded, spread mulch and a whole host other minor maintenance tasks around the school.

Special thanks go to Richard Henry for his tireless commitment to maintaining our school grounds and continually seeking opportunities to make Kilsyth Primary School THE BEST IT CAN BE!  Great work Richard.

OUR SCHOOL LOOKS FANTASTIC.

READY FOR OUR COMMUNITY FAIR IN OCTOBER.

NAPLAN

Parents of students in Years 3 and 5 will have receive their child's NAPLAN report in the next days. While we take these tests seriously, both in the way we conduct them and in the way we analyse what they tell us about the learning of each child, they only make up part of the picture. The bigger part is what teacher and parents know about each child and in partnership together, we seek to grow and nurture each child in knowledge, skills and maturity.

If you would like to speak to your child's teacher about their individual results, please feel free to contact them to make a time to do so.  They will be more than happy to discuss with you the bigger picture we have for your child, and all the sources of evidence of learning we use to inform our teaching.

Disco  and Special Event - Friday 13th September

Our end of term disco will be held next Friday - 13th September.

Junior Disco 6pm - 7.15pm

On this same evening , we will have a youth group from a local church meeting here for a special games night.  Although they will not be using the hall, they will be running around outside.  We have plans in place to minimise disruption to the Disco drop off and pick up process.  It promises to be a great night!

Celebrating our great sports...

Last week at assembly we celebrated the performance of two of our students - brothers Brock and Cooper - in their local junior footy grand final.  This week we are wishing some more grand finalists luck for matches this weekend... all the best to Ruby and Jess who play in the Montrose Under 13 Netball grand final in Section 3, and Kaylee who will play in the  Montrose Under 13 Netball grand final in Section 5 tomorrow.

On Sunday the Montrose netball teams (hopefully after a win) are competing in the Maroondah Billy Cart marathon on Sunday at METEC on Colchester Rd from 10.30am to 3.30pm.  Money raised will go to the Smith Family and a charity of the team's choice.  Spectators are asked to bring a  gold coin donation.

Sentral Messaging

Next term we will begin phasing out our use of FlexiBuzz and increasing our use of messaging through Sentral.  At this stage, the key format of messages will be email.  Please check the email address we have for you is up to date.  To check this, go to Sentral on your device and on the home screen click on "My Details"  at the top of the screen it will show your name and email.  This is the address Sentral emails will come to.  To alter this email address, please contact the office.
