 Happenings

All Year 10 students undertake ONE WEEK of compulsory work experience.

If your son has not started his search for a Work Experience employer THEN HE MUST USE THESE SCHOOL HOLIDAYS TO DO THIS.

La Salle       Week One      24 to 28 July

Solomon    Week Two      31 July to 4 August

Benilde       Week Three   7 to 11 August

McCristal    Week Four     14 to 18 August

It is worth keeping in mind that many students of your son’s age do not realistically know what career they want, yet instinctively know the types of activities that interest them.   For example, they might like to play sport so may look at jobs involving sport – gym instructor/personal trainer, sports administration, turf management, physical education teacher, dietician, physiotherapy or coaching.  Another example might be they enjoy music – musical instrument shop, music teacher, hi-fi shop, music recording studio or radio work.

If your son is looking for ideas, there are many career websites available for him to access.  I highly recommend the MyFuture Website as an excellent starting point.  Ideally, it would be great for your son to complete his work experience is an area he has a vocational interest in, but at the end of the day, any experience in the workforce is worthwhile.

Before the end of this term, you son will be emailed a list of past employers who have taken our students on work experience.  There is no guarantee that they will do this again, but it is certainly worth a phone call to check their availability.   In addition, during the school holidays, Mrs Jill Gamble will be available in the Careers Centre for any queries regarding work experience on the following dates.  Tuesday 4 April, Wednesday 5 April, Wednesday 12 April and Thursday 13 April.  Contact details for Mrs Gamble are Phone 9582 5843 and email:  jg@stbedes.catholic.edu.au
