Excursion to Polly Woodside & Immigration Museum

Senior students would like to thank the parents, student teachers and staff that came along for the experience to explore the Polly Woodside and Immigration Museum.  We had a terrific day where students got dirty and wet as they carried out tasks that they learnt about. They were quite shocked and interested in some of the challenging conditions that men and women had to tolerate as they sailed aboard the Polly Woodside.  It was pleasing to see them make inquiries and ask questions that developed their historical knowledge.  The Immigration Museum opened their mind to some of the realities that people were faced with as they chose Australia as their home.  Seeing our student collaborate in groups to explore immigration stories was very pleasing.  They should be congratulated on their positive interactions and responsible manners displayed in both public places and especially on public transport.  We look forward to our next visit into the city... Year sixers... the AMAZING RACE!!!

Yr 5 visit to Lilydale High School

Our morning went really when when we visited Lilydale High School last week.  Students listened attentively to the information which answered some questions that they had been wondering.  Lilydale provided us with a guided tour which involved visiting the reptiles and having an art lesson.  We also got to test out the goods at the canteen.  An information brouchure went home with your child.  If you require any further information please see your child's teacher.  Lilydale provided additional support in Literacy and Maths and provide an accelerated program. Their open days are generally the first week of May.

Science in Senior School

Mr Turner has been busy preparing his experiments for our students to dive into.  We loved learning about buoyancy a few weeks ago! The challenge was to create a boat that would float and then see if it was built well enough to hold small metal weights.  I think the record reached about 60 small weights.  Well done to Senior BE as they had more sturdy boats and more weights in total.  Mr Turner will be back at the end of the month for us to experiment with something new!

Year 7 Enrolment

Letters will be sent home with students on the 19th August to notify you of your child's high school placement.  Further correspondence regarding Year 7 in 2016 will be from the high school.  Please note that ORIENTATION DAY for 2016 is on TUESDAY 8th December.

Celebration Day - Wed 12th

This has certainly crept up on us with so much happening! To wrap up the work we've been doing with our YMCA program there is a Celebration Day that has been planned that includes Gladesville PS and Pembroke PS and is to be held this WEDNESDAY 12th August.  Students will travel by bus (no payment required) to Mount Evelyn where the camp site is set up for the days activities. Parents are welcome to meet us there and check out the collaboration and leadership activities.  We are looking forward to a fantastic day!

QuickSmart Numeracy

Well done to our QuickSmart students Holly and Asha who have completed their Numeracy challenge.  They have worked consistently throughout the year to strain their brain and build confidence and knowledge of all four operations.  Congratulations girls! A great achievement!

Hooptime - Friday 14th Aug

Our Hooptime day is this FRIDAY 14th August.  If you are available to help out any team, scoring, cheering, coaching then we would welcome your company! Please see Craig Couper if you are free!  Students will be walking to the stadium so please keep a look out at the weather in the lead up to the day.  Students will need a healthy lunch for the day with a drink bottle.  We are really excited to see our teams in action and all of the senior school taking part in the day.  Hope to see you there!

Swimming - 7th to 11th Sept

Our annual swimming program is fast approaching.  It is an expectation that students participate in this curriculum area.  It's always a fun experience and a great way to build those water safety skills in preparation for the summer that we are all longing for!!

Cookies & Milo - Tuesdays

Don't forget your child can purchase cookies and a milo which are 50 cents each.  They will need $1 if they are to have a cookie and a milo.  All funds go towards our Year 6 Graduation.  The committee is working hard as planning is underway for the big day in December.  Please see Jenny Watson if you have any questions or suggestions.

WOW! YAY! GO TEAM!

We would like to appreciate our students on really improving their assembly behaviour.  We have spoken about Friday assembly's being a formal part of school life.  Our students are working hard on remaining focused and attentive as the role models of our school community.  It's important that they set the standard and continue this excellent behaviour.  Well done everyone!
