International Women's Day
Year 12 girls and staff.
To celebrate International Women’s Day, Lily Black, our 2019 Year 11 Captain and SRC President, has written the following piece:
On March 8th every year, we celebrate International Women’s Day. This is a day where we can remember and celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women throughout history across the entire world.
There are three colours we use to represent this day; purple for justice and dignity, green to signify hope and white to represent purity. Sometimes the colour yellow is also included to signify a new dawn.
The real heart of International Women’s Day though, is to bring awareness to all the incredible things women are achieving every single day, which is something that everyone can appreciate and acknowledge.
So take this opportunity to think about all of the incredible women in your life.
There is a recent documentary on Netflix titled ‘Period. End of Sentence.’ which details the empowering work of women in India and how they are fighting for the ability to be themselves and the chance for girls of the future to get the education they deserve. I would highly recommend watching this to get a better understanding of the sacrifices made by women for women.
