Australian Schools Basketball Championships

From Sunday 2 to Friday 7 December, the Senior Boys Basketball team competed in the Australian Schools Basketball Championships at the State Basketball Centre.

The week got off to a good start with Lachie and Ben Ahale and Lachie Johnson taking out the 3on3 tournament on Sunday night, which coincided with the Opening Ceremony for the week.

The boys were greeted with early games on Monday and Tuesday and despite being competitive for the entirety of the games, they were out muscled by the taller squads at Maribyrnong College and Aquinas College.  Riley Spicer starred in the first game, while Beau Tennant and Lochie Johnson were great against Aquinas.

Wednesday saw the boys up against the two interstate teams of, Henley HS from SA and St Ignatius from NSW.  Both games provided the boys with opportunities to get a win on the board, but unfortunately, we couldn’t get over the line with once again, the size of the oppositions being a factor we couldn’t get past. Lachie and Ben Ahale competed well in both games, while Tom McDonald battled valiantly inside.

Thursday saw the last pool game against St Joseph’s College. The game was a close battle, but unfortunately some poor discipline saw the game slide away. Josh Powell and Caleb Serci provided an impact off the bench, while James Peacock made some big plays.

Friday saw the final classification game against Melbourne High. The boys managed to finally put together a win, which saw them finish 11th in Under 20 Division 1.

The week was a great experience for the boys and is certainly something they will look to build on for next year.

Thanks to all the parents who came and supported the boys.
