Tree Walking Excursion
On the 9th of March 2023, the Year 3s and 4s went on a tree walking excursion. We went with David Da Silva. He is a specialist in trees and knows how to identify different trees. David told us the reasons why it is important to have trees on our planet. Like if we don't have trees, it would be really hard for us to breathe because it produces air pollution.
Then the year 3s and 4s all walked to a nearby park. On our way we saw a lot of different species, colours and textures of trees. Once we got there, David talked about some facts about the trees. If there was anything interesting, we would write it in our books. Some interesting facts were that tree sheds it’s skin (or bark) to protect itself, trees provide homes for animals and trees drink up to 20,000 litres of water. After some notetaking and facts, we all walked back to the school. Then David gave us some mini plants. The names of the trees were named ‘Little John’. We would like to thank David Da Silva for sharing your knowledge about trees with us, and thank you to Botanix Plant Supply for donating shrubs to our school.

Beach Walking Excursion
On the 24th of March Friday 2023, the year 3/4s went on a walking excursion to Altona Beach. Each class rotated through three activities. One was you had to sketch plants that you find at the Beach. I drew one of those ruff spiky pine cone things. We saw seaweed, bushes, weeds, trees and many more. There were so many different categories. Another one of the activities was about habitats and where animals at the beach live. First, we named habitats around us, then we looked for animal habitats on the beach. Some of the habitats were sand, trees, soil and rock pools. The final activity was about animals at the beach. We had to list the animals around us. We saw Ibis, seagulls, swans, jellyfish and dragonflies. Students enjoyed their time at the beach.

Cherry Lake Walking Excursion
On the 30th of March 2023 the year 3s and 4s went on a walking excursion to Cherry Lake. We all walked past Sugargum Drive and also saw the Athletics Field, then we all arrived at Cherry Lake. Once we got there, we saw the drooping sheoaks all around the lake and there were a lot of ducks swimming underwater and on land there were also swans. We walked to an old tree that had empty Cicadas shells and Ms Broughton put one on her jumper. All the plants had been blown to an acute angle. Once we found a clear place to sit down, we started to draw some things that we saw around us. We saw swans, rainbow lorikeets, swamp hens, galahs and an ibis (bin chicken) at Cherry Lake. After that, the year 3s and 4s got to have a ten minute break to play on the playground. The swings were a popular place to be on the playground. There was a zipline. It was also a popular place to be. It was an amazing time at cherry lake. We hope to go there again some time soon.
