Secondary School News

Linda Wakeling

This week has been very busy for secondary. In Hands on Learning Build, Rob has been busy doing an assessment with the students. The students are showing their skills they have learnt this semester by making possum boxes which will then be hung in community gardens. The students are using a variety of skills such as measuring, cutting, drilling and screwing, using tools such as measuring tape, drills, clamps and saws. There will be lots of warm happy possums nesting in these boxes!

All this week our students have had the chance to attend swimming at the Broadmeadows Aquatic and Leisure Centre. Thank you to  all the parents who have come along to see their child swim. The students love seeing their family there. Thank you to the staff who helped throughout the week. Personally I have really enjoyed being able to get in the pool with the students and to see their progress each day. Every student has shown improvement across the week and they should be proud of themselves.

Students have been learning about pool safety and swimming skills. Students work in small groups with one or two of the swim teachers. They start by warming up in the water and then practising skills such as blowing bubbles, kicking, swimming using the pool noodles or kick board and then swimming independently. Some of the groups head to the deep end to practice diving and swimming under water to pick up the rings. Students have thoroughly enjoyed the swimming program this year but I know after 5 days in a row we are all ready for a rest!

Room 25

Room 25 students have adapted amazingly to being back at school, into routine and are enjoying each other’s company in the Advance classrooms. We have hit the ground running with excursions and expanding our living skills and street awareness. We are loving SYNFM on Mondays. Its hard work and a huge commitment, in school and as homework, but the students have been AMAZING and are naturals on the radio. Presenting a show live on air, 90.7fm, 12-1pm Mondays in Term 2. Tune in! 😊
