From The Principal's Desk

Dear Parents and Carers,

Term 2 has kicked into gear with a number of significant events already occurring and many more coming up.  On the Monday 24th April staff spent time updating their CPR requirements and spent a large amount of time working through the school vision and values.  As we have almost 50% of our staff new to the school, it is an important time to review and set what we want our vision and values to be. We also plan to involve the students.

On Tuesday our School Captains and Junior Council leaders participated in the ANZAC Day march.  A big thank you to Mrs Svilicic, who managed the event and ensured all students were collected and understood their role for the morning.

On Thursday we managed to get through the Cross Country event and tried a new course that I believe the students found far more engaging than our previous courses.  Congratulations to all students who participated in the House Cross Country and ensured they gained a point for their team. It was terrific to see so many parents come to support their children and cheer on the children. Congratulations to Mr Storey for organising this event and allowing it to run smoothly.

Those students who finished in the top 4 from 10 Years old and upward, will be considered to go on to represent the school in the Ballarat and District Cross Country event at Victoria Park on Friday 12th May.

Mother’s day and special carer stall

On Friday this week we will hold our Mother’s Day and special carer stall. This will be coordinated by our Parent & Friends group and the students will have an opportunity to purchase a gift if they are looking for one.

We have some other key events coming up in the next few weeks that are important to be aware of.

Uniform Supply Change

Over the last few months, we have been meeting with Uniform suppliers to try and get the best price and quality for our parents.

The school along with the School Council has made the decision to step  away from LOWES as our supplier.  The decision has been made to stock our uniforms with  Beleza, situated in Doveton Street.

We are hopeful this move will happen in the next few months and will keep you all updated. At this stage, uniforms are still available for purchase at LOWES.

Unfortunately there may be a small  time frame in which uniforms will not be available to purchase in either store, however if this does occur we have second hand uniform available at the school.

We are not making any design changes to existing uniform and uniform policies.

Tag On - Inspiring Active Travel to School.

Our school has been invited to participate in the TAG ON – Inspiring Active Travel to School program. The City of Ballarat in partnership with Vic Health is offering the opportunity for several of our local schools to receive the ‘Tag On’ system which includes a kiosk with a touch screen monitor and data transfer (RFID) reader. Students are provided with their own data tag, which they use each day to ‘tag on’ at the kiosk. We are currently investigating the location of the Tag On kiosk but it is highly likely to be located in the Stadium foyer.

Tag On features:

  • Students earn Individual and House Active Travel Points. The kiosk displays real-time individual and house active travel tally boards at every tag on
  • Parents receive an email when the student tags on, acknowledging that their child has arrived safely
  • Tag On can send an email or SMS notification to parents when their child tags on at school. This reassures parents that their child has arrived safely
  • The Tag On program enables schools to automatically collect daily data on how their students are travelling to school

Benefits to your school community:

  • Encourage children to be more active
  • Build children’s independence and confidence
  • Improve safety around your school
  • Alleviate safety concerns
  • Easy Reporting

You can visit the Tag On website to learn more about this program.

We also encourage anyone interested to visit City of Ballarat’s Active 2 School webpage for information around other walking and cycling initiatives.

We will circulate more information about the Tag-on fobs once the schools receive all the equipment and the system is activated. Further information about safe routes to school will follow and be circulated in upcoming newsletters.

Have a great week – Scott, Marnie and Stephanie
