Walk or Ride to School Day 12 May

On Friday at 8.00am, GSG students, staff, parents and friends will walk or ride their bikes to school leaving from Coraki (Bridge) Park. This is a whole school event and everyone is welcome. Milo and muffins will be served outside the Library on arrival to GSG. A shuttle service for parents to go back to the park to collect their cars will depart at 8.45am from the school.

Young Writers’ Workshops

The Young Writers’ Workshops are happening again in 2023. These workshops are a fabulous way for students to engage with and learn from some of Australia’s best authors and illustrators. Last term saw two groups of Great Southern Grammar students learn from H.M. Waugh, a children’s author and environmental scientist, about the writing process and what makes creative writing really effective.

Fortunately, there are still places left for the remaining three workshops, particularly for Years Six to Eight. If your child is interested in creative writing, wants to improve some of their writing skills or simply wants to learn about writing and the lives of writers, this is a unique opportunity to do so. All sessions are held at the Albany Public Library, with the next workshop scheduled for Week Seven.

Wilson Day - Save the Date

Wilson House will be hosting some exciting events on Thursday 18 May as part of Wilson Day. This year's theme is Country and Wilson, and we encourage all students to wear one item with a country and western theme. This can be anything from a cowboy hat, boots, a big belt, checked shirt, or something similar. For safety, and continued learning at school, please don't bring in toy guns, whips etc and horses might have to stay home this time around.

As part of the day, we are asking students to contribute a gold coin as a donation to support two worthy Wilson House charities: Young House and The Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS). Young House is based in Albany and provides emergency accommodation for young people aged 16 to 20. The RFDS provides valuable medical care and emergency transportation for people in the country.

During lunchtime, students will have the opportunity to purchase ice cream with strawberry sauce for just $3. Please assist us by bringing in the correct change. In addition, there will be some line dancing in the quadrangle, and we encourage everyone to participate in the whole school dance. It will be a simple dance, so everyone can join in the fun.

We are looking forward to a great day, and we encourage everyone to join in the fun.
