Dads in the Great Southern (DIGS)

It was a busy week for the DIGS group last week with the first of our regular monthly meetings on Wednesday and the Camp-out on the school grounds over the weekend.  The Camp-Out was a particular success with 10 dads and around 15 kids setting up on the shores of Oyster Harbour adjacent to the vineyard. The weather stayed kind and there was a beautiful full moon overnight to lend a bit of atmosphere. Cooking marshmallows over the open fire was a highlight.

Lessons learnt for next time include: kids only eat Hawaiian pizza (don't bother trying to offer them any sort of variety), and five to seven year olds can be extremely industrious when you don't want them to be - apologies to the sports department for around a kilometreof rearranged cross country track. Imagine my sinking feeling when a cherubic Year One student proudly presented me with a pile of little flags they had collected.

Many thanks to Mark Sawle for allowing us to use the school grounds, Julia Bairstow and Andrew Orr for facilitating, Luke Murnane for organising the world's biggest fire pit, Glenn McDonald and his son Alec (Year Eleven) for coordinating a lantern stalk and other activities, Ruth Darmody (Year Eight) for taking some great photos, Thomas Schaefer for drone footage, damper demonstration and 'Goblet of Fire' special effects, the P&F for their support, and all the dads and their kids who came along and contributed to an enjoyable and successful event.

We look forward to making it an even bigger and better event next year!
