Carlton College of Sport Excursion

On Friday 17 March the Year 12 VET Sport and Recreation class and Year 12 PE classes attended the Carlton College of Sport to get an insight into what career paths exist within the sporting landscape and gave students who are interested in pursuing a career in sport exclusive access to employees of the Carlton Football Club and the Carlton College of Sport’s industry partners.

We had the pleasure of meeting and hearing from Steve Moore who is the strength and conditioning coach working across the Carlton College of Sport, AFLW and AFL programs. He gave us a great insight into his training, journey and work in the Football Development Program.

Year 10 Outdoor Education Camp

On 29-31 March the Year 10 Outdoor Education class attended their camp. Here is a little snippet of what Kiara Lay (DE2) wrote about the camp in her reflection.

What was your favourite part of the camp?

I really enjoyed getting to talk with people I normally wouldn’t talk to. People are different in a school camp than at school, and it is nice to get to know them from a different perspective. In addition, I feel we are all much more supportive and kinder at camp because we are all in the same boat and helping each other just makes things easier and more enjoyable.

Who worked well within the group to show leadership qualities?

Marnath stood out to me, especially in her attitude towards the activities. She was very excited to attempt all that was on offer and was wholeheartedly giving everything her all. It inspired me to participate a little more and show some more excitement in the activities. In addition, Aura stepped up quite a lot to do dishes, particularly when nobody else would even offer.

Going on a camp and doing many different activities is a pleasant change for most, especially as camp is a much more laid-back pace in comparison to the quick-paced days of normal life. We were able to appreciate Arthur’s Seat State Park for its beauty and how it is so wonderfully green and biodiverse, instead of valuing it for the potential resources it could provide.

We wish our Year 7 students well as they begin their aquatic lessons in the coming weeks, the best of luck and most importantly, have fun!
