Year 6 News

Looking back on Term 1 in Year 6

Puberty

In year 6, this term, we’ve been having puberty sessions each Friday. In each session we’ve had different topics covered in puberty such as what changes happen during puberty and how our body works during it. Year 6 have enjoyed having the puberty lady, Cath, coming in and educating us.

Buddy Lunch & Harmony Day Activity

On Harmony Day, Year 6’s have had their prep buddies come over for a buddy lunch and colour a harmony day sheet and crown in together. The preps wore the crowns that they coloured with their year 6 buddies. It was really fun having the preps all dressed in orange.

Inter-school sports

Also in year 6 we've been doing inter school sports which has been a great experience for us. Year 6 has gone against a few different schools. We’ve made lots of new friends and enjoyed playing against them. We have put in a lot of hard work trying to win for our school. Many of our teams made it to the finals that were played on the last day of school in Term 1.

School leaders

The year 6 leaders have done some great work around the school. Our sports leaders, faith and social justice leaders, art leaders, environment leaders, Digital leaders and wellbeing leaders have been working on different events in our school. Sport leaders played different games such as gang up tag and fruit salad on the soccer pitch on harmony day and faith and social justice leaders have done many liturgies like Ash Wednesday, Lent, Harmony day and religious education week liturgies.

Year 5/6 Level Assembly

In our year 5 and 6 level Assembly, the school leader and SRC leaders started us off with updating us with what was going on and what will be happening later in the term. Then, our teachers told us what was going to be happening during our year 5 and 6 Mount Evelyn Camp next term in May. The teachers answered our questions about school camp and informed us about what activities we are going to do and what is planned for camp. One of our year 6’s, Kelly, played the piano for us to start off our assembly.

Farm to Table 6LA

6LA went to Farm to Table this term, it was very fun. We split into groups of 2 and made the main course, and dessert. For the main course, we made cheesy, vegetable puffs. Dessert was lemon tarts with pomegranates, which were sour. Mrs Frow showed us how to mix up everything, adding in carrots, peas, parsley, spinach and cheese and a special ingredient and mixing it all together forming a filling we put into pastries. We folded them up and into the oven. Before all of that happened, we went outside into the garden while there was pouring rain and picked out our vegetables. In the end, we all had family over and ate a very delicious meal. We then ended it with a prayer and washing the dishes.
