Student Leaders 2023

Children's Advisory Council

This year our school is lucky enough to have two students who are representing our school on the Children's Advisory Council.  This involves meeting twice a term, as representatives of their wider school community, to talk about the local community, facilities, and activities in Greater Dandenong, and to support Council in its commitment to being a Child Friendly City.

Here is what the leaders had to say after their first council meeting:

Wednesday we had our first children advisory meeting. The children's advisory is a program where two students from surrounding schools get to meet together and discuss how we can make the community better. Children's advisory is all about seeing things from a kids perspective. If you get chosen for this role you can further apply for junior mayor. Junior mayor is when you get to go to celebrations and festivals with the mayor. In our first meeting everybody who wanted to apply for junior mayor said their speeches. There were a lot of other students there as well.  There were roughly around twenty or more students who were applying for junior mayor. Once everybody said their speeches everybody voted for who they wanted to be the new junior mayor. Only the kids were allowed to vote, once the votes were counted up the mayor announced who was the new junior mayor. We got to take a photo with the mayor and everybody was really friendly and supportive of each other.

Hi, I’m Nathan, a student advisory council member, on Wednesday 29/3/2023, we attended our first meeting. I applied for Junior Mayor and I was really nervous. We reached our destination and the councilors provided us with a lanyard we wear at the meetings. We entered where everyone was and I was really surprised at the size of the room. There were many kids and 27 people applying for Junior Mayor. The lady that came to our school to tell us all about the Advisory Council made an opening speech and an acknowledgement to the Aboriginals and Torres Strait Islanders. Then we met the Mayor of Greater Dandenong, Eden Foster. The mayor introduced herself and then it was time for the candidates to have their speech why they should be the junior mayor. The speeches were all so great, some were short and some were really long. Then it was my turn, my speech was the short and I did my best. After a long time later, the speeches were finished and we had a morning break. The mayor came back announcing the winner, sadly I didn’t get elected. After that, we played a game where you have to hit the ball in the air and not let it touch the ground. We did 18 bounces on the first try!

Student Wellbeing and Student Art Leaders

Last term our Student Wellbeing and Student Art Leaders worked together on a joint wellbeing art project that is now proudly displayed outside the staff lounge.

Here is what our leaders had to say about the project:

''Our project was to create a piece of art that resembles a motto using fish and other sea creatures that all students created. We created this piece and had lots of fun. The piece of art we made was a gigantic fish with all the sea creatures and the motto was 'it takes many unique fish to create a wonderful school.''

“This project took us quite a few sessions to complete, but it was overall a very fun experience. I enjoyed working with the rest of the arts and wellbeing leaders because we all had a great time!''
