From the Principal

Welcome back to school and into what will be a short but productive term. Students have so much to look forward to within their classroom learning programs and the myriad of extra curricular activities on offer. Extra-curricular activities include lunch time clubs run by both the students and teachers and activities run at a cost by external companies. To read more about the extra curricular activities on offer, please refer to the relevant page later in this newsletter and also our school website.

WELCOME TO NEW STAFF MEMBERS

This term we thank staff members for their service and welcome others to our school.

Office -  Thank you to Gill Large who was a dedicated teacher at our school for many years but after retiring we convinced her to come back to work part time in the office. Gill you’ve been a valued school community member and I have no doubt generations will continue to speak highly of you. Miss Large now wishes to enjoy travel and whatever adventures her ‘real’ retirement brings.

We now welcome Rosa Mashni who will be working part time in the front office.

SAKG – Welcome to Laura Bowe who brings a wealth of horticulture experience and fresh ideas to the garden program. Laura has already received glowing reports from the year 3 and 4 students and the vegie gardens also welcome her care.

Year 1 teacher – Welcome to Mrs MJ Ryan Bennett who will be sharing the year 1P class with Mrs Protektor as Mrs Maya is soon to commence maternity leave.

Teacher Assistant – Our Disability inclusion funding has enabled us to engage a teacher assistant to support students with additional learning needs. We would like to welcome Miss Neve Skillen.

FUNDRAISING (The Easter Raffle)

The final day of last term saw over a hundred students heading home with Easter raffle prizes. Thank you to our wonderful families for the donation of Easter goodies and selling raffle tickets. As a result of your generosity and participation, we raised $4875.

MOTHER’S DAY STALL- Wednesday 10  May

Once again, our School Council Social and Fundraising team have organised a Mother’s Day stall which will be held on Wednesday 10 May.

Parent volunteers do a magnificent job setting up a ‘pop up’ shop in the hall and each class takes their turn to go shopping.

It will be helpful for each student to bring a plastic or paper bag to keep their purchases together and protected in their bag, not to mention hiding their goodies from mum until the special day.

With the success of the Mothers’ Day breakfast last year, our social and fundraising committee is once again organising a similar event at Levi (on Railway Parade). Further details can be found later in this newsletter.

ANZAC DAY ASSEMBLY

Even though ANZAC Day was commemorated yesterday, our Global Citizenship team couldn’t let such an important occasion pass without genuine acknowledgement. With the support of Mrs Houghton and Sensei Briggs, the Global Citizenship Team have prepared a special assembly to share the history and traditions of the day with fellow students.

The assembly this Friday will be focused solely on learning more about how the Anzacs came about, their contributions to our country’s history and how important it is to acknowledge the achievements and sacrifices of those who have served in all wars. We invite school community members to come along.

We’d like to thank the Global Citizenship team for their preparation and dedication.

EDUCATION WEEK

Education Week will be celebrated at Murrumbeena Primary School from Monday 29 May to Friday 2 June 2023.

It's an annual celebration of education, a chance for students to take part in some active and fun activities and an opportunity to share what makes our school great.

This year’s theme ‘Active Learners: Move, Make, Motivate’ focuses on some of the amazing ways students learn inside and outside of the classroom through physical activity, hands-on-learning and student voice in education.

Our school will be holding a parent workshop on Wednesday 31 May from 6:00pm - 8:00pm to share with you our school mission, the Annual Report and the way we are advancing teaching and learning to increase student voice, agency, leadership and engagement. We will commence the information evening in the hall as a large group and then break into smaller workshop groups giving parents and carers the opportunity to decide which topic they’d like to know more about.

This parent evening will also be an opportunity to provide feedback and share your ideas for the school.

Parenting in the Digital World -  A 45 minute live session with Q@A

This session gives insights into the online worlds of young people including the latest trends, risks and research, and includes a strong focus on social media. Parents can seek advice to help their child manage the online world.

I strongly suggest that if you haven't yet attended a parent digital/cybersafety workshop that you endeavour to attend one through the year.
