Principal's Report

A very warm ‘Welcome Back’ to all members of the SSPS community. In particular, I would like to greet all the families of our new students; I’m sure that you will be made to feel very welcome at SSPS. I hope that you all enjoyed some family time and a restful break.

ANZAC Day

ANZAC Day Services were held across the state on Tuesday, in light of this our School Captains Samika and Riley gave a comprehensive explanation about why we commemorate ANZAC Day on Monday just before we finished. They highlighted the fact that we not only remember those who have served in the past and those who made the ultimate sacrifice, but we gather to remember those who continue to serve to defend Australia today. Lest we forget.

2022 Victorian School’s Sports Awards

On Monday 3rd April I was privileged enough to be invited to attend the 2022 Victorian School’s Sports Awards at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Each year these awards recognise students, teachers and parents and carers and volunteers in Victorian Government schools who have excelled at, or who have made an outstanding contribution to school sport.  I was so excited to be there to see Zoe who was in Year 6 last year receive the ‘Athletics with a multi class Award'.

Zoe is an award-winning, multi-class athlete in athletics, cross country and aerobics.  In 2022, she won 5 medals at the School Sport Australia Track and Field Championships, achieving her personal best in long jump and the 100m, and national records in the 200m and 800m races.  Zoe is also a Victorian cross-country champion recently selected for Team Vic, and a state champion in Aerobics, after winning 2 gold medals at the 2022 State Championships.  Congratulations Zoe from all of us at Syndal South Primary School and we look forward to hearing about your future sporting achievements.

Terrific Kids Awards

On the last Monday of term, we had Mr Gary Dowd from the Kiwanis Club of Waverley present our Terrific Kids Awards. For our new families to the school, Kiwanis is a hands-on community service organisation whose men and women members are volunteers of all ages. The focus of the organisation is on the needs of children. Current activities include programs in schools, Monash Medical Centre Children’s Unit, Heartkids, Royal Children’s Hospital and others. The Waverley Club also has a significant commitment to Kiwanis’ worldwide project, in conjunction with UNICEF - the Elimination of Maternal and Neonatal Tetanus.

At the conclusion of each term, we have the Terrific Kids Awards, which are sponsored by the Kiwanis. One child from each year level is nominated by the teachers to receive the award. We greatly appreciate the ongoing support we receive from this wonderful organisation.

Congratulations to our recipients:

Foundation - Lachlan

Year 1 - Caitlin

Year 2 - Kohshi

Year 3 - Olivia

Year 4 - Anna

Year 5 - Selena

Year 6 - Sanuka

Easter Hat Parade and Raffle

The Easter Hat Parade on the last day was a fabulous way to celebrate a very successful term at Syndal South. Thank you to all our families who had so kindly donated Easter eggs, chocolates, and Easter giftware for our Easter Raffle. From all the wonderful donations 37 Easter hampers were made by a fabulous group of our very talented mums. Thank you so much. The hampers looked amazing!

$1,360 was raised from the Easter raffle which is truly amazing. It was just remarkable to see the effort that had been put in by the students (and parents) to create these amazing hats. The musical items performed by our wonderful Foundation and Year 1 students was an extra treat. It was wonderful also to see so many parents at the parade.

Building Works Update

Yes, in the last three weeks there has been much to celebrate in relation to the building works. As previously mentioned, the super trench which holds or the vital services including power, water, communication cabling for the whole school was completed. The demolition of the majority of Building A began on Wednesday, the old toilet block was the first major section to be dismantled. Over the demolition period we are utilising the TeamKids room if the noise becomes too disruptive for students in the remaining rooms in Building A.
