WHAT’S HAPPENING IN YEAR 2

Term 2 Weeks 4 & 5

LITERACY:

Reading - We are focusing on the author's purpose and making connections from what we already know with a range of texts.

Writing - We are focusing on information reports this term and we are looking at what needs to be included in information reports as well as focusing on the sequence of events and important points in logical order.

Spelling - We are learning about alternative graphemes for m (mb as in climb) and r (wr as in write). We are also learning about antonyms (words that have opposite meaning of one another hot/cold, good/bad)

MATH: Our focus is on money, counting coins and notes and ordering these based on value. We are also looking at time and focusing on half past and o’clock.

INQUIRY: On Monday 15th May we will be attending our planks incursion at school where we will have the opportunity to explore design and build. We will also be testing our own design toys in groups.

WELLBEING: This term's focus is on help seeking. During weeks 4 and 5 we are looking at how we can ask for help and students will discuss the types of situations in which they would be best to seek adult assistance.

HOMEWORK: Homework expectations are that students are completing home reading (at least every school night) and filling out their reading diary. Remember each student is aiming to get 200 nights of reading across the year to get a ticket to the Pizza Party!

Our Mascots

Our Mascots are heading to your homes again during term 2. Bessy is going home with the children in 2MD and Bob is going home with the children in 2W.

They will come home on a Wednesday and are expected to be returned on the following Monday. We have loved seeing what the mascots have been up to with the children so far and have seen some amazing handwriting from the children that they have then read and shared with their classes.

REMINDERS:

  • Check Sentral for information about our upcoming incursion. Thank you to everyone who has already given permission and paid.
  • Craftpower incursion Monday 5th June.
  • Year 2 sport will be held on a Tuesday afternoon again this term.
