SENIOR SCHOOL NEWS

Rebecca Durran

Senior Sub School Manager

We are quickly approaching the end of Term 3 and it is still a very busy time for Year 11 and 12 students. End of year exams are just over a month away, motivation, engagement and balance are key at this time of the year to ensure students don’t burn out before the exam period. Continue talking to your teachers and seeking support where you need to.

GAT and Exams

Unit 3/4 students, Senior VCAL and Scored VET students all sat the GAT on Wednesday 7 September, it was their first VCAA exam for the year. This gave students a taste of how the VCAA end of year exams are set up and what they need to bring to be prepared. Students are reminded to check the materials and requirements for each of their exams so they are prepared and ready to go. All Unit 3/4 student will receive their induvial exam timetabled for the end of the year before the end of Term 3.

The event for Year 12 camp is now live on Compass for parents/carers to give approval and begin payment. Year 12 camp is a fantastic opportunity to set the tone for the year, interact with peers and gain valuable study and life skills that will assist you in the Year ahead. The camp will take place at Federation University in Ballarat and will allow students to explore the uni and tafe that is on offer in Ballarat as well as engage in fun activities to develop strong relationships with the year level and key staff members involved with their Year 12 journey. If you have any questions or concerns with camp please see someone in the Senior Sub School Office.

Reminders for Year 12 students

Practice Exams September school holidays

Unit 3/4 subjects will be having practice exams run during the first week of the school holidays, the timetable for these has been shared and it printed in the common room for all students to see. Practice exams are important in building writing stamina and allowing students to replicate the exam that will take place in October/November. These practice exams will allow our students to know how confident they are with the content and how much extra work is still required before the VCAA exams take place. All students completing a Unit 3/4 subject will sit a practice exam and teachers will give meaningful feedback on the exam and quality of answers.

VCAL interviews

Year 12 VCAL students will participate in an interview process during the first two weeks of Term 4 as an opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate their achievements throughout their final years of secondary schooling. In preparing for these interviews, the students are encouraged to reflect upon their employability skill development, for example their ability to work cooperatively in a team environment and to communicate effectively in the workplace. Students are encouraged to invite a parent/carer to the interview and present the work they have completed throughout the year. The timetable for the interview times will be shared with students before the end of Term 3.

Graduation

Year 12 Graduation evening will take place on Tuesday 22 November at GMHBA stadium in Geelong. The balance for tickets needs to be paid by Friday 14 October so final planning and arrangements can be made. Graduation is a great evening to celebrate the year and your journey through secondary school with all your peers. If you need assistance in purchasing your ticket or are unsure how to, please see Mr McDougall.
