Senior Girls Football

After a 2 year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the GD Senior Girls Football Carnival resumed on Wednesday August 3 at Pedrina Park. Conditions for football were not all that favourable, with heavy grounds and a very strong breeze coming in from the south-west. These weather conditions proved no obstacle to the Monivae team, they played some great football displaying skill and daring on many occasions. Some terrific tackles were laid by the Monivae team throughout the day, with Chloe Foster, Bella Cutchie and Maddie Rhook leading the charge.

It was a busy and strenuous day for the girls, they had to pace themselves over 5 games of football. Testament to their general fitness, the girls were still energetic and enthusiastic right up until the final game.

The results:

Monivae 5.2.32 D Portland S.C. 0.1.1

Monivae 2.1.13 D Casterton SC/Good Shepherd 0.0.0

Monivae 8.8.56 D Bayview College 0.0.0

Monivae 4.3.27 D Baimbridge College 0.0.0

Monivae 3.6.24 D Hamilton College 1.0.6

Obviously, been unbeaten throughout the day meant that we were crowned "Premiers & Champions" for 2022.

There were lots of great players throughout the course of the matches, but none better than our popular and skillful captain, Paige Kissel. She dominated in most games, playing as an "on-baller" or resting in the forward line. Jenna May Bristow, Bella Nicholls and Charlotte McClure shared the ruck duties all day and did a sterling job. It was wonderful to see them improve with each subsequent game. Up forward, we had a great goal sneak in Blair Penrose, and she was ably assisted by Tahlia Ross, Maggie Doyle and Holly Cooling. Bella Cutchie was handy up forward, and her determination and vigour had some opposition players "looking over their shoulders!" Olivia Nield was a dependable defender and Madison Rhook showed a high level of skill and flair on numerous occasions.

In concluding this report, I would also like to thank the three Yr 10 students who came along as my assistants. Archie Hintum, Angus Kissel & Jack Jennings were fantastic helpers and did every task asked of them without question. Great job fellas!

We look forward to next year's Senior girls carnival, and hopefully, we can go "back to back."

GWR Basketball

On Friday 5th August, 16 eager basketballers travelled to Selkirk Stadium in Ballarat to compete in the GWR Basketball competition. Both teams hit the boards hard in their first game which saw the boys win strongly. The girls’ team were unfortunately unable to get the win. Both the boys and girls second game were tough from the first whistle and neither team was able to be victorious.

Jack Jennings and Lexie Purcell, the team Captains, led their teams into the finals to play off for 3rd place. Once again, both teams rose to the occasion and won their respective finals.

Thank you to Adam Jennings and Paul Cleaver for giving up their time to coach the teams, this was very much appreciated.

We are currently in the process of selecting the Year 7 & 8 squads to be played in early September. Students are reminded to check the daily messages for selections days.
