Principal's Report

Jonathan Rowe

Dear Parents and Carers,

Among all the illness and Covid cases, Monivae seems to be managing to embrace all of the Learning and Teaching, sport, excursions, camps, and retreats this Term. It is proving to be a challenge and I would like to acknowledge the wonderful and supportive staff, teaching, and non-teaching, who demonstrate their care, compassion, dedication and love for our school and students every day.

I have recently returned from a Catholic Secondary Principal conference focusing on the role of a Principal as a Faith Leader of their community. This year the theme was “Church Renewal”. We were challenged with themes such as “What is our church to do, and to be, in our world at this time?” The Church in Australia faces the challenge of thinking about our contemporary situation, to listen, to meet, to understand and to learn. I am energised by the way our Catholic schools have already, and continue to, address many of these challenges such as gender, the environment, refugees, equality and community.

2023 Staffing appointments

I am delighted to announce Kate Couchman will take up the role of Director of Student Wellbeing from the start of 2023. Kate has extensive knowledge in supporting students in education and counselling, she holds a Master of Education (Student Wellbeing). Kate returns to Monivae after a number of years at THAC.

I am equally excited to announce that Katee Mitchell has been appointed as Director of Students from 2023. Katee has supported our students as a YLC over a number of years, and recently as Middle School Coordinator.

I wish both Kate and Katee well in their new roles.

2023 Subject Selections

Students in Years 8-11 are currently choosing their subjects for 2023. I encourage you to spend some time discussing their choices before submitting online. Descriptions of subjects can be accessed on our website www.Monivae.com

I have received a number of queries, particularly from students in Year 8, who have received an offer for the Monivae College Sports Academy and are subsequently wondering how many electives they can choose for the year. All of the information can be accessed through our website (an update has recently been made) or alternatively you can contact our Director of Learning and Teaching Mr. Leon Furze: lfurze@monivae.vic.edu.au or

 03 55511200.

Kind regards,

Jonathan Rowe
