Senior School

VCE GAT

All students in Year 12 and any Year 11 students undertaking a Unit 3 and 4 VCE sequence this year will sit the GAT (General Achievement Test) on Wednesday 7th September.

The GAT has always played a role in quality assuring VCE assessments, both with school assessed coursework and the external exam, and will be taking on a new format from this year. There is now a second component where students skills will be assessed against new literacy and numerous standards.

The GAT is in two parts:

  • Section A (9:30am - 11:45am)
Assesses skills in literacy (reading and writing) and numeracy.

  • Section B (1:15pm - 3pm)
Assesses general knowledge and skills in mathematics, science, technology, the arts and humanities.

While there is no special study to undertake in preparing for the GAT, all Year 12 Students, and those Year 11 Students completing a Unit 3 and 4 VCE sequence this year, have been provided with sample GAT questions to familiarise and prepare them for what to expect in the exam.

If you have any questions or would like further information, please contact Mrs Kathleen Haworth, Year 10-12 Coordinator, or visit the Victorian Curriculum Assessment Authority website.

Year 9/10 - Deakin University Science & Engineering Challenge

Last Wednesday, a few of our Year 9 & 10 students attended the Science and Engineering Challenge at Deakin University. Students competed against other Schools from the region in eight different STEM based challenges throughout the day. From building, through to creating an electrical grid, students earned points through the use of key transferable skills such as creativity, critical thinking and teamwork. After successfully completing the bridge crossing challenge with the heaviest weight, King’s College emerged as the victorious school taking home the first place trophy and certificate for the day. A big thank you to Mr Robertson for organising this incredible day and helping our students to participate in this unique opportunity.
