Year 5/6 Musical - Jonah: A Fishy Tale

On Friday August 19th, our talented Year 5 and 6 students performed a musical called Jonah: A Fishy Tale. Students told the Biblical story of a man named Jonah from Nineveh, who at first turned away from God's plan. Through a series of songs, funny lines, brightly coloured prompts and dance numbers the story continued with Jonah being swallowed by a big fish. It was in this moment that Jonah submitted himself to God's plans, acknowledging His ways are always greater than our own ways.

We are very thankful that our Junior School students were able to share this message of God's love and faithfulness to peers, family and friends and our special guest, the Kinder Ants group. We also want to thank and recognise the time and talent of our Junior School Music Teacher, Mrs Robyn Parker, for giving our students this fabulous opportunity, as well Ms Kirrie Arms (Prep parent) who used her time and expertise to choreograph and teach the students their dance routines. Again, we wish to congratulate our Year 5 and 6 students for their wonderful performance of Jonah.

"The Jonah Year 5 & 6 play was so exciting! After weeks of rehearsals we were finally ready to perform our play. Kirri taught everyone the dances and Mrs Parker gave everyone their roles. Ryan was Jonah, Dusty and Philip were Leg It and Peg It, Max, Sienna B and Zara were the Crabs and Freya, Sienna S and Miriam were the Senoritas. Everyone was whispering in excitement wondering when to go on stage next. Lots of people laughed at the crabs, and the Ninevites were very mean. Everyone had a great time".

On the 19th of August the Year 5 and 6's performed the Jonah play to a full audience. They practised every Thursday and Friday and had a fun time doing it. It was amazing to watch in the end. We give a big thank you to Mrs Parker and Kirrie Arms for doing the dance choreography and thank Mr Rouse for doing the sound and lights.

Year 1

Recently, some of our Year 1 students entered this year’s Junior Warrnibald Art Competition. This is an annual portrait competition run by the Warrnambool Art Gallery. Artists could select a parent, grandparent, neighbour, friend, teacher, shop owner or someone they look up to. A few of our Year 1 students would like to share their masterpieces with you.

"I painted a portrait of my brother on the beach. I drew my brother because I love him and he is very cute".
Mosese

"I drew my cousin Hayley and my Nana helped me. I chose to draw her because my sister was drawing my Nana. It was fun and I learned how to smudge the pastel. It makes it look good in the sky".
Mollie

"I used lots of colourful textas to draw some music notes and Mrs Snook. I love Mrs Snook because she is really helpful and I like to listen to her read".

Year 2

The Year 2 students had a very exciting visit to the Senior Science lab last week. It was with great delight that students met 'Franklin' the long neck Turtle. They described him as 'slimy', 'slippery', 'slow' and 'cute'. He was particularly entertaining when a toy Turtle was placed in front of him and he couldn't quite figure out if it was friend or foe! Thank you Mrs Shergold for hosting Year 2 in the Science lab. The children learned a lot about Turtles.

Year 4

This week we have started looking at different materials in science and have found that cups make for a great tower but they are not the most stable product to use! In numeracy, the students have been looking at probability and statistics, learning to record information for interpretation at a later date. Some of the students have taken to the oldest board game in the world, Backgammon!  A game of strategy, probability and sometimes, just pure luck! We are all looking forward to swimming next week.  Please don't forget to pack and name everything (socks, jocks, tops, pants, swimmers, towels and goggles).

Year 5

On the August 11th, the Year 5 and 6 students attended a session with the Regional Parliamentary Engagement Program. The session started with a brief history of the Victorian Parliament and then the students had the opportunity to roleplay a debate on a bill. Here is what the Year 6 Girls said about it:

"Last Thursday we went to the Lighthouse Theatre. We split into groups and learnt about democracy. Our group was divided into main roles like premier, opposition leader, speaker and more to do a roleplay. In the roleplay we learnt how a bill is passed to become a law. While we were doing the roleplay, Roma Britnell, the Warrnambool representative from the state parliament came in. She told us about her role and we asked her some questions. It was an amazing experience and we learnt so much".

The Year 6 students made pancake stacks for their learning task in Food Tech this week. They undertook a MasterChef challenge and their food was judged on appearance and taste. Mia and Sienna B came joint first for taste and Zara took second place for her wonderful presentation.
