This semester we have had a large number of families join our Mount Carmel community - they have come from international, national and state locations to be with us. I offer a warm welcome to the students and their families.
It is again hard to believe that we are into the second half of the year already. As the College begins to enjoy the celebrations surrounding our 175 year anniversary, the photos that are currently on display throughout the College have caused a number of students to stop and look in wonder. So many familiar faces (albeit a whole lot younger) of staff and of student activities that might have changed over the years. We have so much to celebrate - our students' achievements and our work within the community. In the academic field, on the sporting field and in front of the audiences - our students are extraordinary.
In this week’s newsletter, I have included just some of the photos that the students are enjoying here at the College - for your amusement and your amazement. Please scroll through the gallery.
Last night I was fortunate enough to attend the Guilford Young College production of Beauty and the Beast. WOW! I was struck by the professional sets, costumes, music and lighting. It was a VERY enjoyable production, and I was incredibly proud of our alumni - from the acting to the music - they were stellar. Congratulations to the whole team at GYC.
The production runs until August 20. Details on how to book your tickets are on the Alumni News page in this edition of The View.
On August 15, as Catholics we celebrate the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, when we remember that Mary was taken or ‘assumed’ into Heaven after she died. This was God’s way of showing us that Mary is special to God, she said ‘yes’ to becoming the Mother of Jesus.
The Feast of the Assumption is the main celebration of Mary's life and ministry. All of Mary's roles - Mother of God, Queen of Heaven, Lady of Sorrows - are tied in with her position in heaven, guiding, watching, and caring for all of God's children.
