Year 7 & 8 News

Positive Start Camps
We have been lucky enough to offer all Year 7 and 8 students the opportunity to attend a free, week-long camp this year through the Positive Start Camp Program. Each camp was selected, organised and run by our student leaders. The camps were designed to give students an opportunity to engage in life experiences that they may have missed over the last couple of years. On the Year 8 Mill Valley Ranch Camp, students participated in trail rides, crate climbing, archery, mountain bike riding plus many more adventures.
At the Year 7 camp at Portsea, students were able to experience flying fox, high-ropes, giant swing, beach activities as well as work on their resilience and communication skills.
Both camps were an enormous success, and I would like the opportunity to thank our student leaders for all their hard work in the organising of these camps.
Year 7: Chelsea Parr, Zoltina Richards, Isabella Laming and Ben Carrigy.
Year 8: Liam Duncan, Harmonie Seddon, Riley Robins and Jai Osman
I would also like to thank, on behalf of the students, all the staff that went along to the camps to help make them run.
Year 8 Camp
With Year 8 Camp planning underway, we need the permission forms back as soon as possible and again I would like to take this opportunity to highlight this trip as an important adventure for our students. We will be working with every family to try and ensure 100% attendance at the camp. If you are concerned or expect to face financial difficulties with this camp, please contact us to discuss how we can support you.
Please note: camps will be processed under the Department of Education camps and excursions rules and regulations and are subject to approval and Covid19 restrictions. We will keep in constant communication and have contingency plans in place.
Year 7 and 8 KPAs
(Kurnai Positive Acknowledgments)
Year 7 and 8 Students continue to lead the way across our campus with their record setting achievements for positive green write-ups on Compass. I would like to recognise the number of positives both year levels have achieved across this year and ask that you continue to congratulate your learner every night when they receive a positive KPA from their teachers. Year level leaders have also set goals around our KPA data, with both Year 7 and 8 student leaders pushing their peers to a high level of achievement with both year levels setting a high target of over 2500 KPA positive write ups. It’s great to see both year levels on track to meet these goals.

Attendance
With all the interruptions start to our schooling year, it is important to continue tracking our goals of attendance. We know that attendance is one of the key factors to success at school. At Kurnai College we would like all students to aim at 95+% attendance. This is so they can get the most out of their time at school. If you are having trouble with getting your son or daughter to school, please do not hesitate to contact me for support.
