The Department of Education is having a renewed push on the expectations that no mobile phone be allowed for students in government schools during school hours.
This is timely, and we have certainly noticed students attempting to use phones more and more often.
We have, therefore, put in place some new structures to help parents understand and support the school in managing mobile phones during school hours.
Starting this week, when a student’s mobile phone is confiscated at school, an SMS will be sent home indicating this has happened. After the third time, a different SMS will be sent indicating that the phone will be available for the parent or carer to pick up from the school. In this circumstance, the phone will only be returned to the parent and not to the student. Please reinforce these expectations with your child. If you have any questions about the process, don’t hesitate to contact me to discuss them.
