English News

The end of Term 3 is always bittersweet for us here in the English faculty. While we are excited to see our Year 12 students transition into their post-school lives, we will miss the close bonds formed over the duration of their time here with us. We are proud of the young adults they have become and are confident that they will find success on whichever road they choose to travel.

I’d like to take this opportunity to congratulate those Year 12 students who finished first in each of our English courses:

English Advanced – Zoe Delaney

English Standard – Jayde Freeman

English Studies – Natarsha Grimley

English Extension 1 – Zoe Delaney

English Extension 2 – Zoe Delaney

We wish Year 12 the best of luck for their HSC Exams.

This term, our Year 7 students have been studying The Hero’s Journey and its representation in film. The unit culminated in a speech task, where students expertly delivered their understanding and knowledge of this longstanding literary framework. Students in Year 8 were introduced to Shakespeare for the first time and investigated all aspects of his world.

Year 9 students have been studying a drama text. Through their close investigation of conflict in Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, the students represented their deep learning with creative visual representations and analytical justifications. Year 9 have just begun a new unit called Media and Manipulation, where their critical thinking and analytical skills are refined and strengthened through a variety of engaging tasks.

Year 10 students have also been studying one of Shakespeare’s famous plays – Macbeth. They have just completed their articles which investigate the relevance of Macbeth to 21st Century society. Finally, Year 11 have been completing their End of Course exams, and are almost ready to begin their HSC courses.

This term also saw the faculty, the library and the school celebrate Book Week. During Week 6, there were several events held around the school to celebrate books and all things reading, including book swaps, a trivia competition, a cosplay competition and a door decorating competition. On top of all this, the teachers in the English faculty dressed up on Friday of Week 6 as their favourite educators in literature. See if you can pick out who we were. I’d like to thank Shelley Klein, our wonderful school librarian, for organising all of these exciting events and initiatives.

Enjoy the Spring holidays!
