Year Advisers Report
Years 7, 9 & 11
Year 7 are 75% through their first year and what a rollercoaster it has been. This term has caused so many emotions and lessons to be learnt. I've seen many tears, we've had many laughs, but most importantly I have seen so many smiles. The term started with Parent Teacher night. It was so lovely to meet so many parents finally put some faces to the voices I have spoken with over the phone.
Next we had a Resilience in our Teens (RIOT) workshop, where Year 7 learnt the difference between stress/nerves and anxiety, and were provided with numerous strategies about how they can manage these feelings both in the classroom and in the outside world. It was great seeing everyone engage with peers they wouldn't normally, and everyone was very respectful of each others feelings. I was so proud of the effort they put in as it was a massive day for everyone, even I was glad we had some lollies along the way.
Later in the term we had R U OK day, where Lily Lopez, Katherine Gordon & Tasmin Gott presented a section in front of the whole school at our celebration assembly. Well done girls you all were very well spoken, it's scary getting up in front of the whole school, however you made it look easy. At lunch it was so nice to see Amaziah Argent, Samuel Whight, Tycen Bedford and Harry Jeffery perform a musical piece for everyone's enjoyment. The crowd loved it and so did I.
Towards the end of term, many tears were shed as it came close to examination period. It is daunting when numerous assessment tasks are due at the same time, and it becomes a juggling act if they are not started until the night before. The best advice I can give is as soon as you receive an assessment notification, begin the task and seek advice from you're teacher if you are not sure what to do. Year 7 is such a massive change from primary school and unfortunately we cannot hold your hand through this any more, it's time to build some independence and remember Year 7 is all about finding your feet, learning how to manage numerous subjects at once, but most of all enjoying the ride.
Enjoy the school holidays everyone, see you next term.

The end of this term marks the longest time Year 9 have had face to face learning since starting High School. Who would have thought we would be saying that when they first started back in February 2020! It has been a busy term in and out of the classroom, with many activities in sport, music and the community. Term 3 has also been busy with assessment tasks for all subjects, and although this can be a stressful time, I am hearing many positives stories on the work Year 9 is producing.
In Term 3 there has also been leadership opportunities for many students. During the term Mr Hoole and I had the fantastic opportunity to run a peer support day with a group of amazing students. The day included activities in what makes a good leader, mentor, and team member. Students also planned activities that could be used to help Year 6 students in transitioning to High School.
Week 9 was the Meet & Greet with the Year 6 Star Students, where they had a chance to meet them and introduce them to HKHS. I am looking forward to seeing the friendships developed during the STAR program next term.
Students this term also had the opportunity to put their hand up to be a SRC member for 2023, congratulations to our 4 representatives Lily Arendse, Elliot Hollas, Caleb Perkins and Angus Potter. They all had to submit a video that was viewed and voted by their peers, then sit a panel interview. I was very proud of how well all four students completed this process and can’t wait to see what they do for our school community in 2023.
I would like to welcome our new students and their families to the school in Term 3, Chole Desmond, Talitha Kemister, Tarjnikah Reen, Latisha Luck and Minh Long Nguyen, they are all settling in very well.
As we finish this busy term, I remind Year 9 to take time out to relax and recharge these holidays, remembering to eat well, sleep, and take time away from the screen. Looking forward to another great term for the last term of 2022.

Congratulations to the cohort for their completion of Year 11! It’s been a massive three terms full of personal achievements and the vast majority of students should be incredibly proud of their application to their senior studies, as well as their commitment to becoming a cohesive and kind year group.
As always, the second half of this term has been exceptionally busy for Year 11. Many students spent a week or more on work placement at businesses in our local community, with many being highly commended by their employers for their impressive work ethic.
We also had the SRC Investiture Ceremony where the new leadership team were officially inducted into their new roles. It was a wonderful event and it was so heart warming to have loved ones back on site in the audience.
Year 11 were also the first year group to participate in the Resilience In Our Teens workshop, which they actively participated in with a positive attitude as they learnt strategies to cope effectively to stressful situations, which they have hopefully been applying.
Speaking of stressful situations, Year 11 have had their first examination period in many years as they have been sitting their Final Course Exams. Staff have been impressed by their mature, responsible conduct during these exams, which shows their potential to do well during their HSC.
I look forward to seeing everyone back in Term 4 for the beginning of Year 12! I’ll be counting down the days until the Life Ready Camp, which is sure to be one of the best times of their schooling career!
