Weekly Prayer

College Chaplain

Our new Chaplain, Reverend (Deacon) Gavin Blakemore, will be commencing at the College in the week of 12 September.  He will be introduced to students during chapel on the Monday and his formal induction will be held on Monday evening from 7.30pm.  It will be livestreamed and I encourage all families to join in this celebration.  The last time we inducted a Uniting Church Chaplain was in 2004 so this is a very special occasion for our community.

Gavin is passionate about sharing God’s love and growing faith in people. In living out the life of a disciple of Jesus Christ, he values the inclusion, diversity and justice sought by the Uniting Church. Since leaving his executive career in IT he has served the church at Hotham Parish Mission and then Wesley Mission Victoria as Director of Mission before it merged into Uniting Vic/Tas where he served as a Mission and Ethos Partner (East). He is moving to Greenvale with his wife Carolyn and has 3 adult children, the eldest Aaron is married to Amelia and his two daughters are Sarah and Jayne. The family dog Arlo is a border collie. He enjoys reading, cycling and caravanning holidays. He is greatly excited to have been called to serve in the Aitken College community as College Chaplain and is looking forward to getting to know everyone.

Activities Galore

It has been an eventful few weeks with Year 8 students enjoying the challenges of City Experience, a Book Week full of activities, guest speakers and parades, the Year 11 Presentation Ball which was enjoyed by students and their families, teams playing interschool sport and we have our primary students in Cumberland busily preparing for the upcoming Cumberland Concert. The Parents and Friends Association ran a very successful Fathers Day breakfast and stall and we thank our volunteers for all their efforts.

VCE and VCAL students

Next week all students studying VCE and VCAL will be sitting the GAT (General Achievement Test). It is getting to the pointy end of the year for our senior students and we wish them all the best.
