1st Place at Tournament of Minds 2022 Regional Finals

On Saturday 20 August, two teams of Dunhelen students competed in the Tournament of Minds – Metro Northern Regional Finals at La Trobe University, Bundoora. One team tackled The Arts Challenge and the other took on Language Literature. The students worked enthusiastically and collaboratively for six weeks, using problem-solving and ingenuity to come up with a creative solution to their challenge. These students also participated in a Spontaneous Challenge, which involved the students undertaking an unseen challenge, with only four minutes to prepare their responses.

Both teams performed brilliantly at the Regional Finals, and are to be congratulated on their fantastic efforts, teamwork and total enthusiasm they demonstrated on Tournament Day.

A special congratulations to the Arts Team for achieving first place in their division at the Regional Finals. They will now move onto the State Finals to be held on 11 September 2022 at La Trobe University, Bundoora.

A big thank you to parents for their welcome support on the day, especially as encouraging members of the audience at La Trobe.

Accelium International Olympics - 3rd Place Winners

At Assembly last week, 25 Dunhelen students were presented with certificates to recognise their excellent achievement in this year’s Accelium Olympics, a challenging online tournament of strategy games requiring students to use their analytical skills.

Over 150 schools from around the world competed over 3 days. Our Aitken team put on another strong performance in the tournament this year,  placing  3rd overall!

A special congratulations goes to two of our Year 9 students who placed in the top 10: Alex M (9P) for achieving 1st place nationally and 5th internationally and to Peter D (9K),  placing 2nd nationally and 8th internationally.

A huge congratulations to our Accelium team!

MAV Maths Games Days

Well done to all of the Aitken students who recently participated in the  Year 7, Year 8 and Year 9 Mathematical Association of Victoria Maths Games Days.

Select students from each of these year levels worked in teams of four to compete against other like-minded students from schools across Victoria. Students were given the opportunity to develop their mathematical talents and lateral thinking skills through problem-solving tasks, puzzles, relay questions and strategy games.

Each event was a fun day with all students enjoying the challenge and the opportunity to work together in teams.
