Level 3/4

Dear Level 3 and 4 Families

What an exciting couple of weeks it’s been in Level 3 and 4!

In Reading, Level 3 students have been continuing to practice the skill of summarising. They have practiced  summarising a range of different text types including: Dreaming stories, informative texts, biographies and other fiction texts. The challenge has grown from summarising a single page, to being able to summarise an entire text in as few as 25 words, or whatever can fit on a sticky note!

In Writing sessions, Level 3 students concluded their unit of informative writing where they were able to explore a range of different topics. They also began a unit focusing on writing procedural texts such as recipes, tutorials and other instructional pieces. Level 3 teachers have been very proud of the effort and enthusiasm demonstrated for learning new text types!

Mathematics sessions have focused on place value and mapping. The Year 3 students are excitedly awaiting their first experience of school camp, and have examined the campsite map. They have seen some of the activities they will be participating in, and have used mathematical language to describe how to navigate the campsite.

Level 3 Inquiry sessions have built upon the learning and experiences of the CERES excursion, in particular the different types of bush tucker that Wurundjeri people have used for thousands of years. This has been complemented by our excursion to the Melbourne museum, where students were able to visit many different exhibits and extend their knowledge of Wurundjeri language, culture, history and practice. A big thank you to all our fantastic parent helpers who came along and assisted on the day!

Book Week was a great success again this year for Level 3 and 4 students. It was fantastic to see so many students dressing up as characters from their favourite books. Well done to everyone who put so much effort into their costumes, it was great to see them all during the parade at assembly! Book week celebrations also included a range of activities done with our buddy classes, and all students should be commended for their enthusiasm and participation.

From Wednesday the 10th August to Friday the 12th August, the Year 4s attended Camp Weekaway, and what a time we had! Everyone really put their best effort into the whole experience, from trying new activities and conquering fears, to supporting each other and keeping a positive attitude throughout (even faced with activities in the wind and rain!).

We enjoyed lots of fantastic activities during the day: canoeing, hut building, archery, the giant maze, laser tag, low ropes course, damper making and the flying fox. We went on a night walk and cooked marshmallows around the campfire, and enjoyed a bedtime singalong and story time. We were treated to many amazing performances at the Talent Show, and enjoyed many delicious meals together. Our duty groups did a wonderful job of serving us in the dining hall, and we enjoyed checking up on the cleanliness and creativity of our campers during our cabin inspections.

We are so proud of the Year 4 students who were an absolute delight to take away on their first school camp. We know from all of the smiles throughout the week that a fantastic time was had by all.

Now that we are back at school, we are busy working on a special camp project, full of lots of memories of our time at Camp Weekaway. We’re looking forward to sharing these with you towards the end of term, as well as some special camp memories that will be shared at our next Senior Assembly.
