Positive Futures News

What is the EDSC Positive Futures program?

Positive Education brings together the science of positive psychology with best-practice teaching.

The school’s journey with Positive Education began in 2012 with Positive Education focuses and values implemented across each year level and over time has evolved into the whole school approach launched in 2020.

Our Positive Futures program has some very clear goals:

  • We want to improve student quality of life and their engagement with others, including with their teachers
  • We seek to develop students in a more holistic way, with a stronger focus on wellbeing

There are six tenets of Positive Psychology that are embedded into our model:

Positive Health – Positive Self

Developing knowledge, understanding and skills to promote health and well – being.

Positive Relationships

Nurturing positive relationships based on respect.

Accomplishment

Generating hope and optimism through the accomplishment of personal and community goals

Positive Emotion

Building and experiencing positive emotion.

Meaning

Believing in serving something greater than ourselves.

Positive Engagement

Developing critical thinkers by promoting challenge, curiosity and creativity.

Term 3 Update

Positive Change Projects

Congratulations to Ms Dallinger and 7C who ran a very successful Book Swap last week during Book Week. This was a great initiative and very successful in raising funds for The Smith Family as well as donating any of the extra books to St. Vincent De Paul.

We look forward some more reports from other groups.

Term 3 Week 8

Focus – Legacy

What do you want your legacy to be? It is a question that we hope to delve into in the next few weeks with all our year levels and get students to evaluate what they want to be known for and who they want to be.

We started off this week by getting our Year 7 – 11 students to write letters to our Year 12 students. This activity is a way for these students to show positivity and encouragement to our Year 12s as they reach the end of their schooling and let them know that as a school community they are supported.

In addition to this, the Year 7s will also be organising some fun activities for the Year 12s to participate in next term before the students begin their exams.
