RECONCILIATION WEEK

National Reconciliation Week Assembly
Yesterday an assembly for Reconciliation Week was held in the stadium for our Middle School students. We were privileged to hear from an Elder from our local Koorie community, Mr Arbup Peters’ who spoke about the history of National Reconciliation Week and this year's theme, "Don't Keep History a Mystery: Learn. Share. Grow".
Two Year 9 students Lauren of Yarra House and Gabby of Ovens House performed a song The Last Gayip they had written about the local Wurundjeri history, inspired by their experience kayaking down the Yarra river for the My Outdoors camp. They received permission from Traditional Owner Brooke Wandin.
We would like to extend our thanks to members of our local council, including, Mayor Andrew Conlon and Deb Knoche, author Jim Poulter, as well as Mr Arbup Peters and Koorie Engagement Support Officers Alice Young and Isaac Young, for attending.

Last Friday we got to go to the Manningham Council to learn about some art pieces that celebrate indigenous culture in light of National Reconciliation Week. The Mayor welcomed us and then proceeded to introduce one of the artists. It was amazing to hear about stories of indigenous people and learn more about their culture.
In term 1 we had the opportunity of making a presentation for our My Outdoors camp to Pound Bend. We decided to make a song about the Wurundreji clan and their experiences at pound bend. We performed this at our camp and at Tuesday’s Reconciliation Assembly.
Thank you to Miss Chiuch for giving us these opportunities.
